With a "hard day" fish wise on Sunday thou i do say hard day back in 2008 it would have been a great day but anywhoooo we set off with plan B today, myself, Graham as normal and a mate Ian set off to try a few wrecks.
The sea was very very flat and by 9am the sun was blazing down so things looked good with no wind etc.
We had a fantastic sight of a large pod of Dolphins all around the boat, we jumped out the cabin and left the boat heading for them with cameras in hand but trying to catch a pic of them when we are doing 12k and they are doing 20+ was not easy....we spent 15 mins watching them and did get a couple of pics.
We all said to each other if we dont catch any fish today that was worth going out for, lucky thou we did catch fish and had a good day.
Ok fishing time now...left nature alone and headed to a wreck, few drifts very slow with only 1 cod on the pirk for me but lots of mackerel, me moved to some more and started picking up codling 1-2 a drift with 1 pollack about 4lb also.
By this time the sun was hot now and made it a great day at sea, i put the grub on a chicken curry and new tattys :0)
We moved on while we had our lunch and a good job we did because from that point onwards it was manic, cod after cod after cod with only 4 ling upto 5lb chucked in. By 2pm we had our fill and started chucking them back with Graham even doing some mid trip filleting then Ian shouts over get the gaff big fish on....i walked over and could see this white lump about 40ft down and knew it was big...up came a 17lb 1oz cod on a white shad
This was then followed by a couple of 4-5lbers for us and then Ian once again shouts over "here take this rod" and passed Graham the rod as his back had went....up came a 15lber and a 14lber on the same drop, thats 28lb of cod.
We plugged away taken many more cod and it was taken its toll and Graham went for a kip
But he was not akip long as i gave out a shout, get the gaff massive cod..it dived and went wild on my brand new 8lb class rod, heart started going as i had not tested it with anything over 6lb yet but it hit the surface and it was my first 20lb 3oz cod for 5 years, followed by a 16lber not long after
We moved wreck and once again into cod with the last double of the day a cracking 13lber.
All in all a great day out with sun, flat sea, bit crack, 6 doubles and over 70 other fish between 3-20lb with 4 ling and 1 pollack chucked in for good measure
My catch 23 cod between 3lb-20lb 30z, 3 ling about 5lb and 1 pollack about 4lb with loads of mackerel.
