Ok so the season of 2011, not the nromal big write up but a few words and pics to give you an idea of the year's fishing
Well the season started much sooner than I had expected, with tip off’s from other people of good fishing I was 2-3 weeks sooner at sea than I had planned.
First few weeks of the season spent fishing the hard ground taken some very good numbers of 2-5lb cod and coalie.
As the season went on we started on the wrecks early May and they too jumping with codling and the odd ling, July seen some cracking cod being landed with over 11 doubles in 2 trips By mid August it was all down hill with numbers of fish dropping off with every trip but still getting a few each per trip, into September and when the weather let us we hit the big ling, taken 4-5-6 doubles a trip with lots of smaller ones.
So trips out a mere 34 this year due to so many called off with weather
Number of different crew over the year 6
Number of doubles for the boat a new record of 37 with 20’s and a 30 mixed in
Species landed
Gurnard Grey
Gurnard Red
Weaver
Coalie
Pollack
Mackerel
Launce
Haddock
Pouting
Poor cod
Cod
Ling
Herring
Scad
Octopus
Shad

Best day
Often I mention the best day but we had many great trips this year but I think the best trips for me was seeing cabin boy Graham get his new PD cod and PB ling that I had promised him for 2 seasons now, along with a old Mate Jason smashing his PB cod and it was also a nice moment talking my cousin into trying his luck fishing and seeing him land a cod of 16lb a new PB for him also. I had my first 20lb cod for few years and ling also.
Furthest out we went this year 24.5 miles
Furthest north 7 miles
Furthest south 5.5miles
Deepest water we fished in a shocking 326ft
Best wrecks…shirr that’s not for here
Down points of the year
Weather a constant battle with more trips called off than fished, a new record I be glad not to try and beat
Picking up a rope at the river mouth resulting in £320 worth of damage to the gear box and coupling
None fishing highlight
This year was with out any shadow of a doubt the day we had a podd of around 14 dolphins around our boat, they jumped front and back, came along side and when we stopped they played right in front of us, this was one of 4 days we seen dolphins this year. Also a special moment was a huge whale about 80 yards away from the boat, we never got a good luck but it was a great to see it blowing water in the air and its big black back is it dived down.
Some good moments from 2011
Its rest time until next year
