Well it had been 37 days since i last stepped onto my boat with being away on holidays so i was gagging to get out and wet aline.

A quick check of the weather yesterday confirmed i would be taken leave and have today off.....so i picked my mam up for her first trip of the year and due to her loving her fishing but not able to do the 10hr+ trips i often do we agreed on a 8am until 3pm trip today and boy it was worth it.

(Sorry for lack of pic's, camera went flat after two pic's)

On the first wreck by 8.25am and we soon had a couple of mackerel, a small codling and a couple of coalies landed, we moved a few miles further off and my mam was 6-3 up on the cod front within 1hr fishing with them all the same stamp 3-5lb.

We moved off hitting a couple of cod on each wreck then as the tide turned we hit a wreck and it was manic, a cod a drop, sometimes 2 at a time that tested my mam's arms.

Then the bigger boys turned up we had four doubles...Cod of 14lb 2oz, 11lb 4oz, 10lb 1oz and a ling of 13lb 9oz landed within 30mins of each other. (all on the nice new scales)

We kept hitting the wreck until someone flicked a switch and it went dead but the final count before we went back in was 36 keeper cod and 2 keeper ling, a few smaller codling put back, whiting, pouting, coalie and mackerel.

We kept 4 cod for the table and put the rest back...cracking day at sea and a good start to the second comming :) mind it was a close run thing, i was in the lead fish wise until the last two drifts then my mam drew even with me on 19 keepers each ha

Great report and pictures Richy. An amazing day by the looks of it. All credit to you for putting most back to fight another day.

I dream of days like that. Well done. :)

A great days fishing by any standards, well done on only taking what you needed for the table too. Hopefully they will be there again when next you get out.

That worked out ok today then :) not bad for blowing off the cobwebs :D

Another drift and I reckon your Mam would have won:)

Well done to you both.

Yer 3 cod doubles, if we had fished more for ling i am sure we could have added 10-15 more ling to the tally.

Weekend weather looking naff so far but fingers crossed for two days of 12hr seshes :)

She gave me lessons when i was 5 years old fishing from Seahouses pier...thats when i caught my first fish a nice coalie but she had been fishing with her dad for 30 years before that...opps she only 21 so could not have been 30 years :)

Well done Rich, great days fishing mate and a great catch/report congrats.

Nice one Richy - spent most of today getting Heart and CT Scans - hopefully will get the all clear soon and get back out there - had a short sesh on Tuesday night at SS pier with my mate Keith who has just started fishing - usual tale 2 - 0 to him - first cast a decent coalie and then when spinning he got a bass. Just nice to get out and get a line in the water.
