Stingray

Ventured out today to eight and a half miles out. A combination of dirty water, a lack of fresh Mackerel and un-comfortable conditions brought my last trip of 2012 to an early end.
I would like to thank Richy (Northeast1) for another season to fish onboard Stingray, the invitations are always very much appreciated.
To everyone Iv'e had the pleasure to meet and share the deck with its been an honour.
To all those who venture out onto the pond be safe and return home.

Regards,
Big Sid.

Yer thats my season finished now, water like mud as far as the eye can see and not many fish showing so heres to the worst boat season ever but still got some memorys of big doubles and great days out on a sunny flat sea,,until April 2013 :)

Did u manage any fish at all then richly? Il b joining u all next season, was gona try get in few times this year but don't think il bother now, roll on 2013

i'm not giving up...

i brought all the boat kit home this time last year, then had to take it all back again as the forcasts were good enough to get out

i'm fishing right through....change of tactics pehaps, but still carrying on.

weather permitting.. ?

Yer thats me done for sure, mackerel have vanished now not one from 1mile to almost 9 miles, spoke to other boats on radio and same results and we tried alot for them. Count down started and stopped for me, i have already taken my gear off the boat today and already started looking back at pic's of 2012 season, sun rise, sea state, whales, dolphins, double cod n ling and general funny moments but all in all poor year with numbers down and trips out reduced to a shocking 31 full days at sea down 52% on last year.

Happy long winter everyone and bring on April :) time for a spot of trout fishing, pike fishing and maybe skate fishing :)

Ow and if anyone goes out at the weekend take some bait just incase you cant find the mackerel as well and the afternoon be best as was 2.2 knots until the tide changed and put it down to 0.9..that sw swell was brutal.

CHEERS to the 4 lads that fished with me this year, good days and bad days..until next year adios :)

Why do you guys write the season off? Its still only September ?!

I had some lovely boat fishing sessions in October, November and deep into December?!

We did a wreck session on Sarah JFK last year 27th December and it was nice and calm and we caught Ling, Cod and pollock on wrecks.

And then there is uptiding as well.

I dont like cold weather fishing and i winter my boat, strip it end of oct. Fish to be had but rather start april finish oct. Jfk does well through the year, for me i rather pack in.

To get out 31 times in a year would be a cracking season for me, 2011 you must have been out 60 times over say a 6 month season, thats once every 3 days on average.....thats what i call semi retirement...:D
My gear is staying on the boat for those still, crisp winter mornings....few hours out uptiding.....weather permitting.....:)

Yeh Richy, I'm like you, like to feel a bit heat from the sun when out boat fishing. The winter months are for shore fishing, or whatever.
I'll be itching to get out by March again, as long as the weather is fine.
I have a few jobs on the trailer and a new impeller on the auxillary motor to buy and fit and service to both engines so they are ready from the word go.

When i do night shift i fish 4 days a week if the weaher lets me, then use leave also, never used any leave this year, not worth it

My boat season ends today. Had trip out today and we all struggled. Skipper tried his heart out for us but nowt about and at one point we were 14 mile off.
Now wheres me shore stuff.
Mick.

Cant catch what is not there, just whiting showing up our way now....maybe 4-5 days of a settled sea may get the fish back feeding from the boats.

Where do they go then Richy ? Whitby still catching after the storms and shore anglers catching , maybe we just go too far off? I'm just guessing of course , but I've never understood why the boat anglers wait for the summer to catch cod and the shore anglers wait for the winter to catch cod
My boat has hardly been used this year , it's staying put with everything ready to go fishing through the winter, I know I won't get many days out, but I was catching mackerel in November last year and when I did get out it was a really pleasant break from the normal winter drudge.
Never anchored this boat up yet, but I'm intending to do it , with a cabin like a greenhouse to sit in it should be comfortable enough to sit and watch uptide rods fished at anchor.

We had mackerel to late Oct last year as well but the water was not like Mud 8 miles out :) the fish will be still there just maybe not feeding.

For me i have little to no interest in rough ground fishing and always go out to the wrecks regardless of how well the inshore marks fish, uptiding to me is a bore and at anchor even more but these two methods would be the best during winter am sure for good catches.

I am a 1st weekend in April until 2 weekend in Oct boat fishing man me, but since am away next 2 weekends thats me done....sitting here with typing with my two reels stripped down for the winter clean.

Interesting view.

The only boring boat fishing to me is when you catch nowt.

Anchoring, Kayaking, Trolling, Wrecking, Drifting, Bait, Shad....whatever it takes...if one catches, I wont be bored, seasick or cold.
