Strange catch at Beadnell

My mate micky fished at beadnell today, Had a few nice coalies and pollack to 2 pound on a spinner, then on one cast his spinner was hit like a torpedo. After a good fight, his catch burst from the water into the air, spinner in its mouth.
A bloody puffin!!! It was landed and subsequently released seemingly unhurt, as it simply shook its head and dived back into the sea.
One to tell the grandbairns!

i was at the mull a few years ago and one of the lads caught a puffin
it went berserk
but he got it off and let it go
unharmed
it was quite funny

I once caught 2 ducks at the same time when fishing the mouth of the wansbeck for flatties. Mackerel strip was the killer bait

I was up at Seahouses yesterday and the puffins were right at our feet. When ever they surfaced their mouths were full of small sand eels, the terns were trying to get the eels out of the puffins mouths.

we used to go fishing for ducks (mallards) on the river when I was a bairn, size 6 hook and a big chunk of bread. Local butcher used to give us 50p a brace for em!

always try to keep a few puffins in the freezer, they make a very tasty meal. my brother-in-law is off on his yearly puffin hunting trip, armed with a large butterfly net lol so we are expecting a dinner invite soon :)

so what tackle and rods we need to catch these puffins lol,and what is the best spinners etc, sure they can give a better fight than cod,,

p.s anyone heard if theres any macky caught on south shields pier lately, LOL
