i was in keiths the other day and saw some stren 30lb line ,it was quite a lot of money for 330 yds think it was 17.00 but the line was unbelievableit had a diameter of 18lb.it comes in clear or gold .
i have used stren in the past and found it good and tough ,just right for rock fishing /
just wondered if any of you fellas have tried this new line and was it as good as it looks .
as theres no point it shelling out lots of cash for somthing thats not up to the job ;)

£17 for a line for rock fishing seems a bit pricey. In theory it could be ruined first chuck and that would be a pricey cast. Did it once with Laiglon. £15 for 600yds and some bloke with and octopus on his head wound his line in and his cut straight through mine (not blaming u Sless, honest.........) Just think that sort of line is ok for beach work where you might want a heavier B/S but don\'t want your distance to be adversely effected. Have tried quite a few line with high B/S to dia ratios but to be honest, for rock fishing I go for something that holds up to abrasion more. Of them all Aqua Zuba by Zo-Zuri was the best, it looks just like Daiwa Tournament, available from Harris Angling. Daiwa Tournament and Berkley Trilene Big Game are just the job and at Rutherfords in Sunderland you can get two spools of Trilene for £15.

Agree Ant, I wouldn\'t want to be wasting that money on something which might leave your reel in two or three chucks. I use Trilene 30lb or 40lb straight through (not power casting) but have got it cheap. Got some fro people visiting Florida and got some more myself when there earlier this year at roughly £4.70 per spool. Secret here is not to buy loads of the lighter stuff that lasts for umpteem fills as ther\'s a danger of it rotting.

Other alternative I\'ve yet to spool up and try is Ultima Red Ice which me mate tried and thought was graet in 30lb. Have got a spool and have to say it is much thinner although I think the Trilene\'s thickness helps with the abrasion offf the rocks.

KEITHS TACKLE AT SALTBURN ,sorry forgot to put the location in ,ive been using the supersurf 35lb which is supple and very tough ,but many years ago i used stren and it was really good stuff,at that price though i agree its not worth the bother for rock fishing ,but you should check it out as the diameter is stunning ,and would be great for beach etc or where distance could be important

I agree to ant, i go woth the £4 spools of vector line from id tackle they have every lb in and it does for on the rocks better than paying another tena for something good that could just knack up. :D

I think if you are looking for something thin for it\'s breaking strain, Ultima F1 Northern Rock is OK (not brilliant IMHO, although I do use it on some of my reels ) and a few shops have deals on it so you get a couple of spools for about £14. I mentioned the Yo-Zuri stuff from Harris Angling, well that was on their half price bargain of the day (every day occurence on the website!) and was about £4 for a 600yds spool and it\'s the best of the so called super lines that I have tried so far. ;)

Just had a look and the 38lb at.52mm is £11.95 for 600yds well worth the money IMHO, but how much do you want to spend on line, personally for me it depends on the fishing situation and how long I\'d expect the line to last without thinking about crackoffs etc. In terms of diameter, @ .52mm and 38lb, Trilene which I think is underated in terms of strength is .565mm and 30lb so the difference is there to be seen. Also as stated the .52mm ZoYuri is meant to be 38lb breaking strain and after a quick rake through a stash of lines, .52mm Daiwa Tournament is 25lb B/S so 13lb extra is fairly good if indeed that is the strength of the line.

I\'m sure all of us at one time or another have struggled when pulling for a brake, I know I\'ve struggled with both 30lb daiwa tournament and 30lb Berkley Trilene. Maybe the Zo-Yuri is the true strength of the line and the Daiwa is underrated? Other brands though are closer to the the mark and it all depends on how much you personally want to spend. I also know that currently there is a European action regarding the correct labelling of fishing line as there is often too much discrepency between the said diameter and indeed the breaking strain of the line and so they may in future have international standards to which they must comply.

ant how much is that line on harris angling half price? it doesnt seem to be on the half price bargins or am i just blind? :P

ok cheers ant. i go on there regulary to see what plugs and spinners they have on, some of them are kanny good for my pike fishing. :D

Hi Brashy.its £6.50 inc p and p i\'ve just ordered some.i\'ve looked at it before and i was in two minds what to do,so i read this post and thought i\'ll give it a shot.We did miss the special price deal. Thanks to Ant i\'ll check Harris www. as often as i can.I knew they were there,i just never checked there site.

The thing is with Trilene is the diameter doesn\'t make that much of a difference if you\'re just lobbing off the rocks. The thicker diameter makes it a bit stronger and even seems to be quite abrasion resistant and would you want it snapping with agood fish on. Where distance or strong tides are an issue then the more expensive lines are probably be worth it. Clean beaches are hardly likely to cost you as much in terms of loss or wear. That said I\'m not a massive hitter and have Trilene in sizes from 12lb for spinning right through to 40lb on my Penn 535.

Yes Peter, it comes into it\'s own over the rough stuff. I\'m not concerned about distance either as I know I can put it a good way out if needs be. Still I\'d say it\'s just underated in terms of B/S, the 12lb is like 15lb etc............ My favourite brand wear wise though. Tried the Trilene XT (Xtra Tough) and XL (Xtra Limp) and thought the XT was ridiculous, it was like 20lb line diameter and it said 14lb on the box!! The XL was great for spinning but I use Fireline now and love it, helps alot with feel and when you can fish 30lb instead of say 12lb for spinning, you pull out of plenty of snags.

hi,just received my Yo-Zuri stuff from Harris Angling this morning, went to the beach this afternoon and tried it out, very impressed considering its 34lb rated, had a couple of chucks with three different weights and it casted very well,i\'ll try it for real over the weekend,Thanks for the link Ant.
