Stuck rod

Sorry, I know this has been up a few times but my kompressor is completely stuck, 3 of us tried to part it on shields pier last saturday and it just won't budge, plus many attempts since, ice packs etc. Question is I've read you can place a long wooden dowel up the butt section and tap it to free the joint which seems like a canny idea but can this damage the rod?
Any advice much appreciated.
Gordon

one either end with a bit pressure pulling, you in the middle, tapping just hard enough to flex the rod. might take a bit of time, but it'll work.

That should work fine mate. Carbon is a strong material, espicially if its the grade of carbon that century/zziplex use...

The only other option you could try is to rinse the spigot under a cold tap for a minute or two. This causes the carbon to shrink very slightly and may just be enough to separate.your rod buddy.

This happened to my mate when a fished Craster last weekend. I told him to get some cold water from a rockpool, so he cupped his hands, got some and then poured it over the spigot of his Century CM Crest, and we left it for a minute. After that we tried again to get it apart and hey presto it came apart almost immediately.

A hope this bit info helps you get ya rod apart mate.:)

Cheers for all the help lads, much appreciated but I've tried every trick in the book apart from the dowel up the butt section (sounds painful) so I'm gonna give it a shot the morra, will let you know how I get on. Just a bit pi**ed off, every time I use the rod it's a s*d to put together but normally a couple of us can part it after the sesh but it means there's no chance of going on a sesh on yer own in a remote place.

Had this happen with my TT Sport, ended up driving home with it stuck out of the passenger window of the car like some medieaval knight going jousting.

Mine took a few days to get apart; put a pair of marigolds on for better grip then hold either side of the spigot, twist in oppositte directions and pull. Each day it will give a little and eventually it will come.

Then invest in a tin of PTFE spray from Halfords. The Century joints need to be kept lubricated and this is what they recommend. On both my TT Sport and my TTLD as soon as they get a little stiff I give them a spray and they are good as gold again, a tin is only a couple of quid, lasts forever and makes a massive difference.

you and a mate put some proper rubber typegood grip n gloves on and both twist either way, thats how i got mine apart aft:)er all else failed then put candle wax allover ya spiggot before you use it again it will be ok next time

One lad either side of the spigot holding it and pull and turn in opposite directions gently not to damage the spigot, take the bottom butt cap off as well as it can cause a slight vacum not that it will make much difference but everything helps.

Or candle wax, take a little tea candle with me in my tackle box and rub the spigot joint every time im finished fishing, rub it in with ur fingers - century recommend this way on the paperwork when you buy the rods, they strongly advise against any kind of spray or chemical lubricant

hello gordon
try this, one person take hold of end of rod near tip ring another take hold of but cap and rotate the rod as if it were a skipping rope try this a few times , it really does work.

Which would be why Century specifically recommend treating your spigot periodically with PTFE spray in order to keep them smooth and a good fit.

seen a canny idea on a thread a while back when a lad removed the butt cap then used his fishing stand leg to push to top section out my mate had bother with his compresser last year he left it outside for a few days then it came apart easy i always spit on the joint before i put my rods together seems to work champion

I had the same problem with my kompressor ss, been lucky freed it with help of mates by twisting it apart, I rub a pencil on the male joint seems to work for me.

If i may comment greys rods are mostly a tapered blank so mainly spigot joints and only become tight when most of spigot is all the way in therefore candle wax is good and it helps protect the carbon from wearing and is sticky and holds the two parts of the rod together as if a spigot seal was to break in cast the tip would be away in the drink !.

Century are mostly a parallel butt design and use ferrule joints which make contact as soon as you put the two parts together they are machined to fit therefore PTFE spray lubricates the joint allows it to move without causing much friction doesnt wear the carbon so the joint wont become slack. only apply candle wax if the furrule joint was to go slack.

Cheers
Davey.

To diffrent rod makers obviously Century say to use the PTFE spray your Greys instructions tell you to use a wax Candle as long as your using whats reccomended you should be fine.
