summer drifting and wrecking

Hi Lads
The season is nearly upon us,
In 2013 and 2014 it was around end April when the fish were in numbers and size, it was a bit late starting compared to 2011 and 2012 (early March).

I prefer wrecking and normally start "hitting the iron" in March, as above it is either a slow start or into them early, either way the buzz is there and sacrifice of plastic and lead begins.

So in preparation of the coming season, anything new coming on the decks.

maybe something for the boat or dangling over the side, i don't mean a dozen bad boys.

i have bought a new spot light for coming in when its dark, fit it when i get home,
nowt new on the lures and rippers, maybe put a bit of powder paint on the rippers to jazz them up
new rod and reel on standby.

What about you, owt or nowt

new jiggers

new jiggers

I am looking forward to trying out some new jiggers I have made on the wrecks this spring. I have tried using fixed spool reels for spinning but find them clumsy on a boat or maybe it's just me but I prefer multi's, abu 7000 for shads and a bit bigger for jigs. Also going to try assist hooks on the jiggers. Got a few whiting the other day on assist and normal jigs so who knows?

Only new stuff to be put throught its paces this year is Alan Tani converted charter specials, and a couple of salt 9' cod rods so extra lift hopefully these will make shadding even better

are those converted Shimanos ? did you convert them or buy them ?
he's the propper reel bloke.

Nice rod, i prefer a stiffer rod myself for shadding but can't get past my old Greys Pirker, although, and i don't know why, i have just bought a Century Excalibur braid blank 20-40, putting double foot guides on opposed to the single Kigans so it might put a little more stiffness in it, it'll probably end up in the garage or ebay, we'll see...........

How many more sleeps to go Paul

Too many to go Sh!ts cat, a few "black out" Saturdays before I get home.

have you celebrated the millionth ripper out of the mould yet? between you and dusty there cant be any lead left

what have you been wastin your money on getting ready for the season?
i bet you haven't wasted more than me.............

Hi Paul

The cod rods are 30 lb class and do seem to have a stiffness about them, we will see how they perform this year.

The Alan Tani reels are home done from supplied parts, He recons the Charter special is after the conversions are done a better reel than an Avet
