Isle Of Wight, 1989, last family holiday I ever did with my parents. Didn't catch much, but memorable.
Yarmouth Pier on the IoW, catching little but stunning looking Wrasse all day long. Old Victorian? Pier kept up by a piddling voluntary 50p fee at the time to fish off it.
Beach fishing from Cowes and losing flip-knows-what, but it hit me so hard I had no chance. Caught some pouting from there aswell and had a good natter with the locals, nice people gave me a lift back to the holiday place which saved me a long hike.
Pair of lads that were ID twins playing pool and hustling people were a laugh, one could play, the other was barely average... they'd switch shirts in the bogs between games once the betting got going
Band that played in the holiday site club, can't recall the name, but flip the did "Hotel California" note perfect!
Finding that the tackle shop in Cowes, at the time, was ran by a couple from W/Bay was nice, had a good natter and then offered the tray of ragworm and told to pick the ones I wanted!
Downers - being told that we'd get booked on a charter trip no bother, to find that after hauling boat gear down there that everyone was boooked solid. Getting off the train to find that some mong had thrown their cases, heavy cases, onto my rod bundle and trashed the rings on 2 out of 4 rods. Not being a driver who could hire a car at the time, so relying on where the folks were going or walking.
Lovely place though, would love to go back. Other highlight was the 2nd week there Hale & Pace were on telly and did their sketch about the Isle of Wight (can't find it on YT but it's a long winded sketch about promoting peace throughout the world that ends with mocking holidays on the IoW as a reason for hating the place!!) - I wet myself, really I did.
