Tony, it has to be looked at from both sides.

Just for instance, imagine you wrote a great piece on here about bait. You took ages to write it and took loads of photographs to help with the explanation of presentation on the hook and then a few days later you found it on another website with no explanation of where it came from or who wrote it and the person there trying to make out that they had done it all. How exactly would you feel? The laws on plagiarism are there for a reason and rightly so mate.

Jim.

Yes Jim I must agree there ,one of my posts ages ago was copied on another site .... you know me ,it wouldn't have been a problem if they'd asked first and it did get my back up a bit that they didn't think to ask ,so I understand exactly what you're saying to Tony .

I know mate - not condoning plagiarism..was just agreeing with Ell's comment on the flimsy nature of some publications online "resources"

As part of the Uni' assignments you have to be very careful not to directly paraphrase or use someone elses work and try to pass it off as your own...if you "quote" anyone else you have to cite verse and reference in triplicate to cover your a***...that's what takes the most time when writing the essays:(;):D

Yes Steve, I think I remember that mate, not right at all.

Tony, that must be a major PITA having to cite verse and reference every time mate. I can understand why though lol.

Lol Coddy, they are both right mate, we all know what you mean lol.

As said previously though, nothing the matter with passing on information but if in doubt, get permission, or don't post it if it is from another website. It can save a lot of arguments lol.

Jim.

nice one mick ,ya caused a bit of a stir lol,nah only joking, leave the journalism to the journalists and stick to catching quality fish mate.

... One thing that puzzles me is, newpapers are trying to sell more papers, yet they put their newspapers on line, minus photos most of the time, where everybody can see them, to me it seems as if they are doing themselves out of business.
... I hope not Alan. What else can I wrap me worms in ? :(

Alan,

Is this not a case of the papers making quite a high proportion of their money from the advertisers.

For example lets assume there are 200,000 people in the sunderland area who can read ;) and 20,000 of them buy the paper they would set their advertisers rates on 20,000 people seeing the advert.

Put the same content on the web and get another 2000 online readers you have increased your circulation by 10% at very little extra cost as the editorial content is already payed for, but can now say to your advertisers we have 22,000 readers ....so your advertising costs have gone up.

Add to that the website is full of sponsors and adverts....seems like a good money maker to me.

Cheers
Dave
