Just wondering how the sizes are worked out for snappers, barrel or rolling swivels & 3 way swivels.

I am a bit stuck on sizes to get for the above for boat fishing. I am ordering some online but it does not describe the actual size, just size 4 for example.

Help appreciated

Cheers

not sure about boat swivels but for making shore rigs i think i use a size 1 top rolling swivel and size 6 for hook snoods.

i use size 2 rolling swivels for the shore think it is 100lb breaking strain,i also use 2.0 american snaps for the trace and 4.0 american snaps for the sinker.

i think size 4 is about 60lb breaking strain but this will depend on the make, american swivels and snaps are the best.

swivel sizes are like hook sizes the lower the number the lower the breaking strain.

Depends on where you get them. The sizes dont seem to be standard in terms of breaking strain. I use size 4 rolling swivels from Veals for my shock leader to rig, they are rated at 100lb. They have the sizes and B/S listed on their site.

Cheers for the info, also found a little bit info from ebay....2.4.6.8 & so on then there are 1/0..2/0 apparantly the 0 is for Ocean?....anyway, i got 2/0s so if they are too small then they will do for shore fishing so can't lose really.

i also find it very confusing why there is no standard size so tend to buy on the stated poundage to hopefully avoid breakages and possible accidents
