Got to Hartlepool yacht club 5.30pm, reports from other boats that had been out all day were not good, most went to the boulby skinny area, so we thought we'd try north in the Crimdon area. Tried inshore wrecks and rough ground, nothing. Tried 6 mlie further out again wrecks and rough ground and still nothing so headed back inshore to rough ground opposite crimdon viaduct, but all we caught here was whiting, ended up catching 14 whiting between the two of us, all returned safely. Methods used, baited hokkies, rippers, shads and pirks, pink hokkies baited with prawn caught the whities. Got back to shore 11pm. Rubbish fishing, but a realy nice night to be out on the water, no wind after the first hour and the sea flattend off. There is allways next time.

strange

in the last week the catch reports suggest that small cod in huge numbers get caught on the roughs inshore, not even 1 mile !

I myself have cought them like that on my boat 1/2 mile off Sunderland and 1/2 mile off Newbiggin mainly on shad

However, it seems that the catch reports get better the further north you go. We hear glowing reports from Berwick and almost no noises from Whitby.

Maybe the codling move in from the north.

I think your right Kartonkel. We were full of hope after reading the reports, but most of the good reports are from further north.
We still had a laugh and at least the whities stopped us blanking.
