Next week I want to go out and target a ray on.my local beach(horden/blackhall)...any tips for theses, fish baits? Long distance casts? And hope for the best? Any tip and advice?
Cheers tin

Sandeel and squid cocktail works although depending on the day they seem to be only interested in crab.A normal pulley rig is all u need mate, some people use flowing traces but they tend to tangle up unless there's a tide flow.Hope this helps. :)

Had a couple of goes at Horden lately on big tides, long and short, crab and fish baits but no joy. I think it's a waiting game mate. Good luck and I hope it goes your way.

Cheers lads all info helps, there was on caught on fresh macky strips this week just under 12lb, al be out this week for a few session see what happens

For horden i would fish to rods one long one short fish baits on a up and over rig does the job they should be in the shallow waters but distance can sometimes get them low water on the turn is ment to be the best time for them in that area

Spot on Phil so fish over low and in at distance is gonna be best shot? That 12lb was caught day light as well, I was thinking dusk time to dark but think al just take plenty of tabs n food n fish a full day and night tides, nowt better to do next week

Always a good plan def enough tans nowt worse than running out of them lol bright sunshine can produce them but a bit cloud helps. Distance can pay of but short can to i would be lobbing one out from the beach then waddling out on to the sand bar then blasting one lol ask big jay he knows how to catch them there lol

the one i had earlier this yr only 4 or 5 lb took crab and bluey flood tide best but distance off the shore they can be anywere.

they day i got mine there had been a bit sea running for a few days but was only a slight swell on day i got mine sea was very coloured.

sept and oct seem to me best months at horden going off past reports.

Spot on lads cheers, I can get decent distance but not jay distances, wey al have a try at them, just want to try and actually target something instead of just going down hoping for anything this time of year.. if you get me lol

one lad i know swears by ragworm has hes mate had a double with it last year i think same area ,also my m8 had one on ragworm too hollderness coast ,i heard slack water is best time to try to put the ray bait out short or long ,squid works fine where theres plenty they will take it no problem ,had a squids head on at loch etive shore fishing when me rod tip slowly pulls down and kept pulling down had to grab the rod out stand before it went in ,fish on cudnt budge it or reel in quick enough soon as hit shallow edges gone a big ray lost gutted :D
