Was told the receivers were in Stuey which is a shame as I took a rod in to get repaired on the Monday and they were closed on the Tuesday.
If anyone can get me a contact number so that I can collect my rod I would be very grateful. It\'s not an expensive one but it is mine, just bought it there this year. If anyone from Temples happens to read this it is the end section of my Shakespear Ganza Carp rod.

Thats a shame,not just about your rod mate but they both seemed nice people.
If you keep an eye on the Chronicle there should be an announcement on which reciever has been appointed.
If you contact them as they will be wanting to know what is customers gear.

Speaking of TIM..........
Has anybody heard from him lately ???
He was the successful bidder in the last auction for the trip out with Norman on Slinky Kate.
Last time I spoke to Norman, he still hadn\'t heard anything from him regarding arranging a date for the trip.

Being new back to angling after a lot of years away I have wondered about the tackle shops. I remember buying my 1st rod from Robertsons in N/cle Haymarket in 1968 for £3 6s and 9d. Never thought I\'d see the day when Temples went down, you couldn\'t get moved or served in there for \"every type\" of angler. I was looking forward to a good browse in there! I used to spend ages in Steve\'s Tackle on Prodhoe Street in North Shields and John\'s Tackle in Wallsend (anyone know what happened?).
I think the \"information highway\" may have to take some blame here: it\'s so easy on ebay etc. to buy gear and have it delivered in express time to your doorstep I have used the internet to buy many items (not fishing) and after reading this thread decided, without prejudice, only to buy from local tackle shops (I think we need them), even if it\'s a bag of worm occasionally. I\'d be grateful for your comments.
Tackle shops are a good source of information (especially when you\'re fishing away from your normal manor) and I think they should be supported even tho\' they may have to charge a few cents more than the internet shops. They were here long before the internet, let\'s enjoy both worlds.

Couldn\'t agree more Graham ,local tackle shops are a great place for knowledge sharing etc and of course now most tackle shop owners will discount the gear so that they get the sale, rather than let the websites get the business.
I remember as a kid going down to Temples every Saturday morning with my mate Jimmy to get his Fatha\'s worms, what a shame to see Temples go under .

Totally agree with what you say, Graham.
The rise of internet shopping has sounded the death knell for many small businesses - particularly those who don\'t trade on the \'net.
Personally, I\'ve never bought anything on the \'net which I could get at a local shop. I\'d much rather see my money going towards keeping the small, local business going.
As you say, the info you can pick up from the local tackle shops is very important - not to mention the social side of going in regularly and establishing a raport with the staff.
It\'s a very sad day when one of the longest standing tackle dealers goes out of business.

Aye, I remember burgling the fish gut bins on the quay to find a bit of carsuss where the knife had slipped and left a bit of meat on that you could use for bait...then pull up coalies, crabs, suckers and spratts on a handline by the dozen off Lyodds jetty and the little government jetty. You could catch more fish in an hour than the JFK could catch in a week (if you only count numbers & not individual weights). I think that\'s why the kids arn\'t so interested these days coz the fish ain\'t so easy to find. I\'m so sorry to here about Temples.
I remember buying bait from a machine that was outside on the back wall! You could buy lug and rag in little bags - can\'t remember how much it was but it must have been pocket money amount.bought my first rod and reel from there last year when i started up again ,great lads ,i would have thought they would have followed billys lead and got into selling on the net/mail order,shame to see another shop close ,not many left down there now scotts has gone as well

From what i have heard it may well be opening again soon,a couple of local tackle dealers who already own 2 shops each are interested in getting there hands on it.Hope so because its a 2 min walk from my house and i never went because there bait was crap and overpriced,hopefully that may change with an established dealer taking over.
