Bit of a late report.
Saturday
We headed out early Saturday morning 7;15 am ( about dinner time to Bert and Norman lol ) and tried some wrecks and hard ground to the east and north of Hartlepool up to about 10 mile off. There was a million mackeral about making it very hard to get down to the wrecks.
But thats was about all we caught for Saturday apart from the odd whitey and pollock.
It was'nt a good sign tho when we were heading out to the first wreck and had to take a wide berth around two big commercial boats that were pair trawling and continued to all day, coming very close to shore at times. Bar Stuards.
Sunday
After Saturdays poor start to the season we decided to head South and were greated by a nice flat sea and clear blue sky's on leaving the lock gates.
On our first wreck of the morning we picked up a few good size pollack and the occasional codling and ling which was nice and a good start to the day.
Things stayed steady throughout the day picking the odd fish up here and their. Not in great numbers but of a nice size.
Me Dad had the best coddling of the day plucked off the rough ground at just over 8 lbs and I had a good pollock of 9 lb off a wreck and a few others just smaller, we kept two pollock a few codling and a ling and put the rest back.
Seen a canny sized whale aswell in about the same spot we seen the one last year, but this one was a fair bit bigger than what we think was a pilot whale last year, not sure what type this was. Their might have been two, depends how fast they can dive and surface a 100 ft away, because another popped up a couple of seconds later.
We had a bit of a chew on coming back into the lock when the radio would'nt work properly and then the engine cut out about 20 ft off going into the lock gates ( great timing ). Got it all sorted out eventually, and headed in. New radio needed tho I think.
All in all a good day out and came back a canny shade of pink.
Did'nt remember the camera so have a few pic's off the mobile.
