Fishing yesterday on rocks, nr the north arm, shields. Loads of bites, one coaley landed.

1hr before high water, rod is pulled out of stand and going seawards bent double - happenned in 2 or 3 secs. Pick it up. Fish hooked and pumping. Half way in...ping. Fish comes of hook.

I've NEVER seen as violent a take as this from the NE coast. Reckon it could have been a pb..cry

Baits used - blacks, mussell, fresh and frozen crab.

How big does a fish have to be to do this to a 14 foot rock rod virtually sea level with a SLOSH 30 on the end????

Hi jimbob, Glocka caught your fish last neet in the Cleadon club match, it was a 5lb reddie. He was at the North arm! Youll get it next time!

I still think about the big one which got off at Whitby couple of months ago. We were in a police compo and i had also put a fiver in for the big Whitby festival compo with big prizes. i was on never can tell a, and john the skipper targeted wrecks.
I hooked into some big fish which fought for about 100 feet on the way up rod was bent double-----then it got off. I was gutted. It was without a doubler and possibly a doubler doubler (over 20lb)--what i,ll never know. But thats fishing for you.
Mick.

I had a bite earlier this year fishing on whitley pipe that near on rived the rod out of my hands and kept on pulling and pulling. I have no doubt it would have lifted the rod vertical had it been in the rest. I landed the fish. A pollack 2.5 pounds. I think the nature of the bites depend on factors such as water depth and feeding behaviour. On whit bay beach Ive had some huge bites there too on some of the shallower marks - they seem more pronounced.

Your fish could have been a biggy or something more modest.

2 years ago i was fishing the white post inside seahm harbour when there was a huge sea on, a young lad maybe about 15 or 16 set up next to me. Anyway after about an hour his rod and stand quickly were heading seaward. he jumped up and just got a hold of his gear before it went in the drink. He shoted over for a hand as he couldnt reel and lift his rod, i was lifting his rod for him as he was reeling down, whatever it was was really pully everytime i lifted the rod up. It seemed to take forever to get it to the side. than as we started to get near the surface it went slack, i thought i dont beleive it all that hard work and it was gone. He reeled his gear up the side and on the end was a whiting about a pound or so, i looked at the fish and it was badly bitten around the belly and the back, i just wish we could of got a look at what it was :(
