The sharks have arrived.

As some of you may know I had a fornight last year targeting porbeagles last year from whitby. Well the grapevine tells me that three were seen loitering round boats last week in an inshore area.

This year the target is to get one further north and by the sound of things the prospects look good. I have several trips booked for them from Hartlepool this year and I will keep you informed of the results but the boat will take four people and if anyone fancies a go on a shark only trip let me know and we can probably arrange something.

One final comment ...there was a video taken of one of the first sharks taken at whitby two years ago and the owner has finally agreed that it is in the intrest of NE sharking that this video should be shown so has agreed to let me post it here. I also have some footage of the ones we caught on last years SOS trip. Watch this space

The porgies are there...all we need to do is go and get em!

Would certainly put a different angle on fishing out of Hartleool.

How far out are you thinking of targeting ?

Might give it a wirl if I knew what type of area's to try.

I dont think the distance fished is really a problem. At whitby we were past the twenty five mile mark. Last weeks reports came from the 8 or nine mile marks whilst driftingover wrecks.

At Scrabster they regularly catch them just under the cliffs and last year I had a phone call from someone on this forum saying he reckoned he had seen them chasing fish from seaham pier. Co-incidently this was just a few days before one turned up in a net less than a mile offshore.

If the feed is there so will the predators be in residence. We have been fishing over rocky ground where there is a noticeable channel or feature to concentrate the fish into one area.

My interst in NE sharks started when we were stuck in the lock at hartlepool due to machinery failure and a guy showed me pictures of 5 he had caught from their in 2004. Never got the guys name or boat name and I guess he must have ticked the no publicity box as I never heard any more about them till they started turning up at whitby.

If you decide to give it a go a decent 50 class rod and a penn 6/0 loaded to the brim with good 50lb line would suffice although not ideal. Traces can be bought at Spotty Dog tackle in stockton as they are the specialist bit of the whole setup and they are not cheep as the hooks are £5 each. If you want any other info drop me a pm.
