And I didn't say Hanson was English I said he brought contenental style football to England well before laughing stock gazza

ok mate, hansen brought continental style to football to England, and Gazza is a laughing stock;) Sunderland is also a massive club and has it's own airport....pffffffffffffttttttt.

Beckham was class i thought, but far less naturally gifted than the likes of gascoigne, beardsley, barnes, hoddle, keegan , le tissier etc, but with a fantastic right foot and awesome work rate. A great roll model indeed

Comparing Alan Hansen to Gazza? you really did that? hahahah , well that's just diabolical;)

ps. not sure what you mean regpude, why would we get banned for discussing football:confused::confused:

Gazza was (is) class, Rooney is much like Gazza in my opinion in many ways, but he is nowhere near Gazza’s level. I remember Jose describing Gazza as one of if not the best player he has ever seen and I’m pretty sure Fergie said Gazza was the best player he failed to sign.

All that said, I think out of the players mentioned so far…Beardsley is the best! Followed by Le Tiss / Gazza then Becks

It annoys me that Rooney will become the top English scorer because hes a good striker but so many before him have been better, hes just hit lucky and won allsorts as well. Shearer pops into my mind right away, won next to nothing yet probably the best finisher I’ve ever seen…but Rooney has more England goals and will probably break his premier league record aswell.

We’ve had a lot of good players in/from the north east haven’t we…what happened!

that's pretty much the way I see it mate

You're right about Sir Alex as well

"Gascoigne currently cuts a sorry figure, and has been held for a second time under the Mental Health Act after descending into depression.

However, during his pomp, 'Gazza' was widely acclaimed as the greatest player of his generation and Ferguson is convinced being at United would have had a stabilising affect on the Geordie.
Ferguson said: "Alan Shearer is one I wish I'd signed, but for me the most disappointing of all was Paul Gascoigne.
"He was the best player of his era, a breath of fresh air because he played with a smile.
"Around 1987, when Newcastle were bobbing above the relegation zone, we played them and my three central midfielders that day were Bryan Robson, Norman Whiteside and Remi Moses. All great footballers and he just tore them apart.
"When he nutmegged Moses and patted him on the head, I was out of the dug-out shouting 'Get that f****** so-and-so'.
"Robbo and Whiteside were chasing him up and down the pitch and they couldn't get near him."

(Don't tell philsbag though, hanson was better;))

Newcastle have had some great homegrown players in the recent era, not sure how many sunderland have had..........:p

I think Steve Howey was a Sunderland lad you know and theres Nigel Clough of course. Cant think of any others...Johnson and Henderson current players of course. I'm probably missing someone obvious, but Newcastle sure have the upper hand in producing talent.

Dont think its gonna help them on Sunday though, still going for a narrow mackem win

Well I'm sure everyone will witness a very poor 0-0 game on Sunday.

I would usually be confident of a Sunderland win, but we have strikers who can't score and the skunks have no strikers at all. Neither set of midfielders look dangerous and the backs are just that.

The current form of both teams is shameful to the region.

Home grown talent? What about the Ginger Pirlo? I thought he was a world beater now?

Wasn't Colback born in Newcastle and a lifelong Newcastle fan who progressed through the sunderland acadamey? He's a hard working midfielder, not a gifted ball player like pirlo; as you well know keith;) None of the nufc fans I know have ever called him the ginger pirlo, though a few bitter mackems do:D;) I do know a few mackems who were devastated when he joined nufc:D:D

Steve Howey was born in sunderland and went to the the nufc acadamey I think, don't think he ever played for safc? wasn't he quoted as saying "i was born in sunderland but my heart was in newcastle"?

I didn't know nigel clough ever played for sunderland to be honest (good player either way) ? I know his dad did though, but wasn't he a smoggy? (great player & a class manager- should have managed England)

Johnson was / is defo a smoggy, and possibly other things:o:o

Henderson looks like a proper player to be fair, I laughed when he was called up to the england squad a few seasons ago, but the lad has developed really well at liverpool, more than he ever could at sunderland, he's going to be around for a wile yet.

On Adam Johnson...
Johnson supported Newcastle at school as a teen ;) and it doesn't matter whatever the newspapers or the internet rumours say...he did, he was a mag.

Not that this bears any significance, but thought id share.

Bored of it already. We need a Tyne and Wear fishing derby!!! Would stoke more interest on here than watching a bunch of overpaid 'actors' strutting around a football pitch.

defo mate, two poor teams, i'd say the only difference is nufc have slightly better individual players which get them by

sunderland are really an over achieving championship club with a big stadium and fans as daft as ours for attending
