Heard some brilliant fish taking south of the tyne and esp in the whitby area over the last month or so. Not many been taking north of the tyne as of yet. (Big fish anyway) Just wondering what people are making of this years cod season, good, avarage, bad or total ****e!

Been plenty Cod caught when the conditions have been right...you just don't hear about them on open forum - apart from the odd report

Blyth Pier fished it's nuts off the other week, as did Whitley and other beaches have produced as well...prob is the conditions have been crap since

I fished over Sunderland on the weekend and it's looked like it should have fished really well - caught sweet fanny adams apart from a Rockling with a funny accent

U should have bound it to the hook mate! I've done alright this year thus far too mate. I've had over 30 size with some really nice fish thrown in since sept.(not includin piers and rivers don't really fish them) My fishings improved so much since last year thanks to a certain individual and because of this I go far more often now basically cos i catch more fish, BUT i have blanked a fair few times when i thought i'd catch fish and cracked it! LOL. The reason i bring it up is because i can't really compare it to last or previous years when i just caught a few. Sea Angler was predicting a Cod Bananaza! With an Article of a 'Cod a cast' down south somewhere. Just wondered what everyones thoughts are.Is it better than last year so far or say going back 5years?

at the moment its been a complete disaster for me ive had 3 codling nothing over the 1.5lbmark but still plenty of time yet

I've prob give myself the kiss of death now and will prob blank when the sea comes away this week, like last week when i was out!

Total crap! Only had the odd decent fish to 6.5lb but no good bags so far. you only have to look at the club results to see that the fish are just not around in any numbers.

Not to bad for me as all of the comps i have
fished i have been placed highest is 11th and
lowest is 22nd.
best fish is 7.9lb's from newbigen (not in comp's)

to me it's like most years, a bit hit and miss, sometimes you can fish when the conditions are bang on i.e. good sea running and good colour in the water ect, and get nowt, other times you can go out with exactly the same conditions and bag up, its the luck of the draw and some people are more lucky than others, hence some lads say its great others say it's sh/te, me i fall into the latter group, tally this season 3, the biggest just over 3lbs[just waiting for my luck to change] lol:red::red::red:

the eternal optomist

your right to some extent , obviously if you go out every night of every week during the season, you'l catch more than say a lad like me who gets out once a week, but on the other hand you'l also have more crap seshes than me simply by the number of times you fish, its still down to luck when you hit the mark at the right time. and even the top anglers don,t know for sure if the fish are going to be at a certain mark at a certain time a lot of it is still down to luck, right time right place.

I've found it poor. Had 3 cod, in about 18 sessions, and only gone out when the sea has been worth fishing. Looking at the Alnwick club reports, they haven't had many fish.
Like has been said I find that it's like the past couple of years, where if you fish the right mark at the right time there are small pockets of fish as opposed to the past where you could go out even when it was flat and at least have a couple of nods on the rod.

Well this Season has been a Disaster for me fish wise, had about 15 seshes mostly when the conditoins have been ideal & useing the best of bait had a few sized whities not off the mark for Codling yet this time last year i had a dozen at least. But will be out again end of this week for the big tides.

john. :)
