Time of year?

With the "super moon" I thought I would venture out onto the rocks at Eyemouth for the first time in a while. Had 3 hours last night 19:00-22:00 all around the cannons and fished 17:00-20:00 tonight on various marks along the golf course. Had planned to fish the top of the flood up at St Abbs but due to family commitments had to change plan, never mind. Anyway, in 6 hours fishing I landed 14 codling. Great!! you probably thinking.....the biggest being about 1.5lbs and all but one under size. Frustrating. Cant even say it was good sport when using an RT Axe. All returned to fight another day.

Just wondering, any of you more experienced lads, is this a time of year thing? Do smaller fish move in shore this time of year? Never caught so many under size fish and not had one decent fish to show for my efforts.

All fish taken on fresh and frozen crab.

Cheers

Jon

I've had the same sort of catches mate off shields pier in recent weeks... had a couple of decent keepers thrown in aswell though so I was willing to put up with the smaller 1lb ish fish to get the odd bigger one. Again mainly taken on fresh crab. There are loads of them about which can only be a good sign for the coming winter season! I don't remember ever seeing so many smaller codling at his time of year though....

14good going that mate

Cheers mate.
Took the majority of the fish off the cannons. Was catching at 10-15 min intervals until last hour I only caught 1. Yesterday I caught less but still similar timings when actually fishing, spent more time walking and climbing onto different marks. I was adamant there would be a big un lounging in one of the gullies but wasn’t to be.

there has been a lot of small codling up and down the coast on all the marks, even in this hot summer there have been 3to 4lb fish every match in these hot summer condions from blyth to tyne as lads have said could be a good winter.
