Hello lads quick update for todays sesh out of Hartlepool.
Hardwork but an enjoyable day. Only Cod was this 11 1/2 pounder caught by Les from Washington.
Took a baited black hockeye.

One of the most unusual catches was a 10 i/s lb Monkfish caught by Cliffy. A bizzare fish and skipper on TJ, Barney said he had not seen one landed for about 4 years.

Here he is getting wieghed gutted-came in at 7 1/2 lb.

Ling and maccy were the order of the day-i caught 2 at about 4-1/2 pound each.Plenty of mackeral still about and a few whities.
Sea was hacky from recent blows-might explain why the beach is fishing well.
Tight lines Mick.

Monkfish/Angler Fish

Monkfish/Angler Fish

The Monkfish and Angler Fish are two different species.
The British Boat Record for the Angler Fish (lophius piscatorius) is 94 lb 12 oz taken in 1985 in Belfast Lough. The shore record is 68 lb 2 oz taken in 1967 at Canvey Island, Essex.
The British Boat Record for the Mondfish (squatina squatina) was taken in 1965 at Shorham, Sussex and weighed 66 lb. The shore record is 52 lb 14 oz and was taken from Llwyngwril Beach, Gwynedd in 1984.
The only edible part of these species is the tail and is commonly sold in Chinese Restaurants as Scampi. .... Delicious !!!
