I think it would be wise of me to explain a few things:
When the lads/lasses start catching fish I normaly weigh the first 2 or 3 just so everyone on board has a good idea what is being caught, including me, if a fish looks anywhere near the 10lb mark I will also weigh that. The only other time I would weigh a fish is if someone asked me to, maybe to sort a sweep out. Of course no weight will be accurate as we are going up and, yes you guest it, down lol.
So as you can see I try to get a fair picture of what is being caught but it's difficult sometimes with a packed boat, it's much easeyer to sit and pick at a few reports lol sorry only playing.
Now I'm not!
Just a little pick at your reply post:
I did say OVER 185lb this could have been 186lb or 286lb? It also could have been fillet.
Many thanks
Berney

Cheers and apologies again

What I would really love is that if all the professional Charterboats of the North East would post for every trip they make an accurate catch report, even on bad days.
I am following those reports on CBUK, skippers homepages, NESA etc and I find them highly selective. I and my mates have been on some of the top charter boats 2012 and we had a few tremendous days but also were part of at least 3 total boat blanks. Rest assured that catch reports only came up of the good days.
I do understand the skippers who project a rosy picture, in the end its business, but is NESA not rather a forum of the anglers and not an advertising tool for the skippers ??

Yes m8 point taken but if I wrote a report for every day people would get sick of me. You probably are right about selective reporting but who wants to hear about not catching fish lol maybe we could write something like we had a poor day or average day and do a good report for good days? I'm only speaking for myself but I would find it hard to report every catch. This catch report was finished at 11.15pm ish after a long day (1 of 5) at sea and another one due the next day. For advertising I think my time would be better spent else ware, but I'm not on hear to advertise I'm on hear because people like fishing just like me.
A good friend of mine ( now passed away) once said to me, you would make a good charter skipper because you enjoy your fishing and I would love to prove him right! I'm still trying.
Anyway had a sh** day fishing today, only kidding, it was on the mackerel first for bait then a wreck, nothing on it so headed fog the ground, got about 3 or 4 ling (6lb ish) and about 5 cod ( biggest 9lb smallest 5lb ) then it just went dead, no drift. We started looking all over the place for more but we only got another 2 small ling until about 2 pm then we found some cod. Due to only having a few fish and only 6 lads on board I had a go myself. I got 4 cod biggest 9.5lb other 3 around the alb mark, all given away, I recon all had a minimum of 3 cod and 3 of the 6 will have had 5 or 6 so not too bad in the end and I was a half hour or so later than normal getting back in.
Cheers

Well done Barney. If the lads enjoyed the day i would,nt bother with making any sums. We enjoyed ourselves with you last time out. Top dollar boat and skipper.
Best wishes MICK.

Some people on here just cant stand to read about others catching fish Barney , I had the day of my life earlier in the season and when I reported it on here I was accused of telling lies, not only about the fishing but the prick even said he watched me leave the marina after 9 am when I had been fishing for 3 hours by then, Im as guilty as anyone for not reporting poor days, but like you say, who wants to read about them?
Anyone who fishes knows there are days when it all happens and days when we shouldn't have bothered, the thing is the same day can have the opposite results for two different anglers , it's reading that someone hit them big time that spurs us on for the next trip.
I've never said how many cod I caught that day , without a word of a lie or even exaggeration it was in excess of 50 , all on a single hook rig , alll on one rod, all on my own .
The prick who labelled me a liar spoiled that day for me somewhat, it put me off reporting catches on here , I hope nothing puts you off , you work hard for your living , you need all the help you can get in your line of work, good luck with it .

Them Scottish trawlers were not helping things, going up and down all day,we passed you coming back in ,hard day, just no drift ,fish still coming in but not in great numbers, all the lads had fish thats the main thing and the cod are a good stamp of fish and fighting fit

Mate surely this forum is mostly for anglers to post threads about their charter day out! You say you have been out a lot in 2012, yet you have only posted one thread, so I don't think you are in the best position to "school" others (anglers or skippers) on here, how they should and shouldn't post.

Maybe you should concentrate on writing about your experiences on "some of the top charter boats in 2012." After all I guess it's what most people on here want to read about.

Yes dead right, surely they should be in deeper water. Most of our local trawler lads tend to give us a bit of breathing space!
Yes it was a bit slow for about 3 hours but it did switch back on, thank god and like you say everyone got fish so, job done.

That sounds like one hell of a fishing trip Ray. I've had a similar one with just my brother and I, just landed on a wreck not too far from port on a gorgeous day, it was the only time I thought fish would pull me over the side lol three fish totaling over 30lb with low gunwales on the boat was hairy lol but a good laugh my brother got a 17.5 lb cod that I'm still trying to beat but this was just one drift! The fish just kept on coming, quality was spot on, nice 8 to 14lb rs. That was three years ago now and the closest I've been to it was when me Rob (easyfish) and Jim (north Star) ended up returning 8 and 9lbrs back in lol. See " a series of fortunate events"

I can take it m8 lol I run a charter boat so it won't make any difference how I word the reports it's going to sound like advertising ! After all my name on hear is TJ Gannet Lol
Anyway this is what I think the forum is all about, a debate, a few answers to a few round about questions and a lot of input from like minded (sort of) anglers so no harm done, after all the lad has apologised and it is accepted.
Thanks again Ray
Regards
Berney

I know Mick sometimes I think " I just don't need this" but it makes good reading, I hope lol pleased you and the lads enjoyed it. I must say I have never had anyone on the boat that I wouldn't let back on, I'm just waiting for that one as it will happen, sooner or later lol I've met some really good lads and hope it continues.
Many thanks for your support
Cheers m8

Very well put m8, the reports should make very interesting reading. Thanks for jumping in m8 as I would have probably just not bothered. Hows the prep going for your next trip out? Has your good lady oiled all your reels and ironed your waterproofs yet?
Cheers for that Kayos

No problem Berney. I probably shouldn't jump in either, but some posts just annoy me, need to chill :D

Haha my good lady has done none of the above, in fact she bogged off to Tunisia with her daughter 2 days after we got back and left me with all the washing to do! I had to use the shower to clean the Waterproofs!

Prep for next trip put back a bit by some scummy neighbour nicking some of our gear from our locked door entry close as we unloaded the car!!

Anyhow 2 boats booked, weather etc permitting. If your boat has a loo we could make that 3 boats.

Lets try (after numerous whiskeys and vodkas my memory is not the best :D)

I normally only post feedbacks or catch reports when I chartered the boat, not when I joined as an invidual, because only then I am interested and also informed about the others catches. I dont charter a boat over here very often, but quite regularely in Cape Town, where I posted a few reports.

2012: mid January with JFK very poor day, we tried loads of wrecks but it just did not happen. Only a few small fish

Mid February on JFK: huge tide, strong westerly wind, total boat blank, early finish, skipper only charged half

Mid March on JFK: Okeyish day with maybe 20 fish on board, a couple for me
Mid april Cape Town: a few reef fish
Mid april Cape Town: about 25 Yellowtails tuna, skipjacks
End April on Jfk: very good day, excellent weather. I caught 10+ cod and ling
End May Ali Cat: OK day for the boat, average for me with only 2 cod
mid June Ali Cat: OK day for the boat, excellent for Me 4 big cod, 7 big ling, won the money plus whitings, mackeys
Beginning July: Sapphire: macky trip, report posted
3 days later: Sapphire evening, only mackies for me, but mate caught an excellent 13lb cod

Hope it helps and stop getting upset:red:

Shame, but Lynn needs a loo unfortunately.

No tackle has been recovered, Police worse than useless. Took 45mins to come, knocked on a few doors, said they would be back later, but never turned up! Phoned them 3 times. Eventually constable phoned back saying he had been busy. Still haven't come back to make a report or take a list of equipment taken and that's 11 days since it hapened. I have now lodged and official complaint, as I can't try to claim insurance until I get a crime report number! I think they do their best to discourage people from filing a crime report, as if no crime is reported, then their clear up rates aren't negatively affected.
