Fished the Black Middens last night about 6.45 - 10.30. Just had this baby red cod on rag. Couple of guys about 40m along from me had a codling about 1lb though, it made me stay another hour but no more.

I think so, cheers. Do bass still come into the Wansbeck? Looks like a really nice spot, been meaning to visit for ages.

av heard a few reports around the mouth but jus the odd 1ns mate, never really really tried for owt else apart from flatties here, but is a really nice relaxing spot aspecially on a calm day u could sit there all day
where u live like mate?

Stand on the little harbour wall, if it's direct in front of you then chuck one line, in line with the edge of it, about 50yds.
Look over the other side - see the pylon towards ashington college? chuck towards that into the middle of the bay. shuffle casts between those marks and that's where I normally find the fish but check for the boat moorings so you don't get tangled....

Usually use 2 hooks there, never fish strip on the bottom as the crabs (as you've found) go mad when they're around. Pretty much fresh harbour rag from Blyth and little else - simple 2 hook rigs on spinning rods.

I live in Chopwell so it's a bit of a drive, still I'd rather do that than pay through the nose for a few trout from the Derwent. I'll definitely be visiting the Wansbeck sometime soon, I like estuaries. I need to start exploring a few more marks, have a bad habit of fishing the same ones every time and catching nowt...
:)Thanks for fixing the pic as well.

Chapel house next to westerhope. it looks a nice place to fish

aye its a really nice spot mate, do u know how to get on the spineroad(a189) from moorefarm roundabout?

from A1 turn off for A19, along A19 then hit roundabout(moorefarm) turnoff for Blyth(A189) all the way along youl pass asda on right of carrigeway then a couple of slip roads after marked for cambois, top of slip road take a right straight over 1 roundabout(tiny1) then left at next all the way along then u'll see a pub called the buckaneer, park outside this and follow track 2 mins and u are there:)
