It's to do with rotation - anything that is a conductor (aluminium, graphite or whatever) spinning in a magnetic field. Google "Lenz's Law" for the full explanation.

ana am still a bairne in some eyes right, but a have fished with a lot of older men in past, i no its technology moving foward and stuff but what did all the anglers use to use before in the olden days, ana fishing was alot better in them days but you still cant beat the good old 7000s altho my personnale preference is a slosh 30 and a penn mag, i still have a few 7000 and a few of them type of models in the old shed of mine, just thought ad bring this point up too open a few eyes up , a think a lot of the older anglers will agree with this ha ha
