Lead Heads

Lead Heads

cheers very useful indeed :D

Ok - so what about lead heads? what scenarios can they be used in? how would a trace be set up to accommodate one?

Hi Scotty,
Great article, many thanks.

You mention using nylon on a fixed spool. Did you ever get around to trying braid.

I loaded 15lb braid on a shimano aero and a 2lb test curve carp rod at easter and have used it for all sorts since. Flatties inshore, spinning for pollock, float fishing for mackrel (which started as a bass session but the mackrel gave the bass no chance) and even had a couple of cod on it.

Its now a permanent fixture on the boat and gets used often, but I haven't tried lead heads on it. The braid and fix spool combination works great and you dont miss many bites. I use an 11 ft rod but its my boat so can get away with it. Something around 9 foot would be better.

Next plan is to get a tope on it :) If oblikta can land one on a 10 quid spinning outfit I am sure I stand a good chance.

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words Dave. Yes I did try the braid on the fixed spool. I had problems occasionally with line twist. (I use a Penn Captiva reel). It's ordinary braid I use, not the fused type. Put it onto my Abu5000 small multiplier and it works there a treat. As I can cast just about as well with it, I don't really miss the fixed spool reel.
Now a tope would be a cracker on the light tackle such as you use. Would think you would need to carry a few spare pairs of underpants though.

When I'm on here, about your GPS conversions. Have you seen this ? Might be useful.
