Transom mounted transducer.

Does any of the boat owners with shaft driven boats have a transom mounted transducer fitted. There are conflicting opinions whether it will pick up too much prop wash and not work. Some say theirs work fine..

Any info appreciated....:)

I had one on Stingray and i only lost the signal when traveling above 6knots, so marking wrecks etc was ok. In hull better all round but more of a pain to fit as you know.

Is it through hull on the new boat Richy  The Beneteau has an Airmar through hull and a Raymarine fishfinder but i'm not keen on it.

Yer its through hull one and it works fine, had it upto 24.4 knots and it never flickered.

p.s also much happier with the 5x now as got a card update and the bottom is fine and also marks fish very well, only thing now i wish i could change was the scroll speed in auto.

Anyway i would say for you, through hull if you keeping the boat a while and dont mind abit extra mess on but transom mount if your not and only using it for going at low speeds and not bothered about viewing it when steaming between marks.

I have a transom mount on my boat and it's ok upto about 8mph . Also get fish showing on start up , but that's just the turbulence. I suppose if your flying along and spot a mark you may miss it anyway but on the whole I think the hull mounts must be better.

I'm looking at the Lowrance 7x HDI it has down scan imagining, but DSI wont work with a shoot thru hull transducer, so i'm going to temporary mount it on the swim platform with an adjustable mount, also try it stuck to the inside of the hull which i know will work fine on standard settings, choose the best fixing of the 2 and leave it till the boat comes out later in the year and try and get an Airmar transducer.....The one that is on is a bronze through hull and was a fortune.....here it is...
