Trouble with an ABU 7000ct C3!

Just a quick post to see if anyone else has had any bother with an ABU 7000ct C3, the red one? I have mine back to the shop twice! When casting etc it's fantastic and reeling in with only the sinker it's fine, as soon as any weight other than the sinker comes on the whole reel just locks up. I was fishing last night and had to pump the fish in to keep the pressure off the reel to stop it locking up. I have never had this problem with any of the other reels I have had ie' slosh 20's, 30's and various penns and just winch any fish in.
Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and knows a soultion for this boody annoying problem!

Cheers,

Graham.

Thanks for the welcome home Duncan,

My engineering knowledge is pants but there is no wobble on the spool or noise whilst casting which I would think would point to the spindle? Who knows? I look out of the window all day for a living so am not technically minded!;)
I think t may be something to do with the drag system but if it doesn't get sorted I am off back to Daiwa slosh 30's for the heavier ground shore fishing!

i had one when they first came out and the same thing happened to me took it back to reelsport and terry gave me my money back ,at the time he had a few with the same problem

Seems to me the tolerances are rather fine between the spool and the inner cage. As you know, the hole frame is screwed together and can quite easily be out of alignment. I would take the side plates off and loosen all the inner screws, slightly twist the whole assembly and re-tighten all the screws up again. Might take a couple of goes, but worth a try as it can happen to any of the 7000 range.

Thanks for the advice, if it comes to the worst what do you's use for the heavier end of shore fishing or is it back to slosh 30's?

I have had problems with ien but mien is worn gears, it slips now and again and sometimes the line starts comming off the reel when you are widning in (slipping gear) it is 11 years old now like so maybe time for the bin as doubt i could get new gears for it with tis age.

I have one with the same problems only used about 20 times but 6 year old ,they are s@@t

Slosh 30 mate cannit gan wrong with them
Take the blocks out and theyre cushty

Problem is with the bearings.
The hole is slightly to big for the spool spindle hence when there is a bit of weight put on whilst reeling in the spool in effect moves forward and tends to lock.

Go with the slosh 20/30. I've used them for many years now, and with a little maintenance they're foolproof. Ask Ronnie in ID tackle which are the most reliable reels, he'll tell you the sloshes.
