This is a canny little fishery twenty minutes North of Consett, up on the moors.
Although it is predominantly a private club water they do allow five, day tickets per day on a first come first served basis, although you can pre-book in advance.
It's well stocked every three weeks, mostly with wily brown trout and offers a two fish limit, using either fly or worm for £10 p.p. p.d. Fly anglers can catch and release without limit until your second fish is killed (Barbless only).
There are also a limited number of memberships available and it's ony £70 per year subs (there is an initial additional, one off payment of £35 to new members to cover printing and admin costs)
The 70 quid subs gets you unlimited visits from 6.00am until one hour after sunset March-October. When you look at the price of a day ticket on 'The Derwent' this represents excellent value. As a member you also get the opportunity to fish 'Smiddy Shaw' reservoir which is members only.
All-in-all, a great little lake, pretty as a picture and always quiet. If you see ten rods on, it's considered 'busy' by the regulars.
Give it a go!
