Any tips on fishing trow point (sometimes called Graham Sands) in south shields? (small pebble beach to the right of the Gun)
Looks a nice sandy stretch out but with rocks to the left along the side of Trow Rock.

You can fish anywhere around Trow rocks including Grahams. It can throw up the odd good fish but it may be worth trying a little further south. The big lump of rock at the south end of your picture is Target Rock, fish off the top or in the middle broken down section for the chance of a better fish. A few comps have been won off this mark.:red:

Often take my son there in the winter on an evening flood,if you fish on the sandy stretch on a flat sea, fairly big tide you get all sorts of critters, fish a cast most times,we have had good whiting, coalies, flatties, the odd bass, even the odd Codling, its best to go down with light gear your only casting thirty yards out as the fish come right into the bay after dark, popular baits for this mark i find are worm, mackeral, raw prawns are a killer. Its well worth a shot if you are scratching for fish and you dont want to spend hours on the rock edges waiting for the big codling.

Just a quick bit of info regarding this location...........

The whole area known as Trow Quarry will be closed to the public from April.

This is to allow work to start on sealing the exposed landfill and the construction of coastal defence measures.

The area affected is the whole stretch of coastline from Trow Point to Frenchmans By (that lower f/path you can see in the photo).

Work is gonna last several months, so if you wanna try fishing this lovelly spot, you best do so before the area is closed to public access.

I love fishing that area, but dunnoo how it will fish once the coastal defences are in place.

I've got the job of recording the whole project in photos and making a video documentary of the work.

Aw bummer :(
I love that spot and was looking forward to fishing it this year.
Do you know if you will still be able to get on to target rock?

No Sigsy, you won't be able to, I'm afraid.

Here's an aeriel photo showing the rough outline of the exclusion zone which will be set up:

As you can see, the whole area (from the f/path leading down to the lower f/path at the "Frenchmans" end to the entrance to the lower f/path section at the Trow end) is the exclusion zone.
As I mentioned in my last post, the WHOLE of the lower f/path section (ie Trow Quarry) is to be sealed off).

The "x" I've put in the photo is roughly the site of a public viewing gallery which will be set up so that people can come along to see the work as it progresses.

What I didn't mention in my last post is that............work is scheduled to last 6 months !!

Well Weefus - the job is scheduled to be completed in October, but as we all know, the weather / sea ain't predictible......any delays due to bad weather / big seas will obviously have a knock on effect as far as the completion date is concerned.
Fingers crossed that it all goes according to schedule.

i have a funny feeling thats what they will do mate as you can see the damage caused by the sea to the cliffs around the area and the only thing to slow this process down is boulders or slope the beach even more (sloping the beach would be great as it would cause deeper water without having to cast very far lol

Had a phone call today asking if I'd photograph a "couple of models"....:D

Here they are..............not exactly what I was hoping for :(....lol.....
