Anyone got any idea what the distance is say from pottery bank over to the paintworks.Or is there an online distance finder for that sort of thing that anyone knows of.Was just having a few casts last week and was thinking about it lol, cheers lads.

dont know the mark you mean, but if you look on google maps theres a distance key in the bottom left corner so that should give you an idea when looking at your mark on the map.

Well if i`ve worked it out right the stretch where i`m on about is 183m or 200yds give or take a few yards.Probably a canny place to practice at,provided no one`s in the vicinity lol.

i had a tide book a few years back that had the mean depths etc of the Tyne, cant remember if it had widths in but i think it might have done. Im sure it was produced by the port of tyne though so it might be worth having a look on theyre site if they have one.

Try looking at the Admarlty Chart for the Tyne;it has the depths and you can get the width using the scale on the side of the chart.Try Googling the chart.

Alreet Jordy,
We use a good shot just upstream of the Redheugh bridge..north side,a small wooden jetty with railings and wood planking on the deck.

We worked out the distance at 270yds plus bank to bank.

One problem is at low water you can get leads dug in at the far bank and also the rubbish coming down the river on the ebb.
Also quite a bit of boating traffic but you can get your gear back in time apart from fast moving craft.

This spot was shown to me by Lu Marsden a very good caster at the time and ex UKSF member.

I trialed most of the Century blanks here when Malcolm Barrow and myself were casting for them some years ago.

Anyone know how far it is from the end of blyth pier to cambois, talking in terms of casting at 90 degrees relative to the cambois pier and not driving round the road system to get there?

According to Google Earth about 160yards.

The Fish quay North Shields is 330yrds. To the boats on the opposite side 270ish.

Only one way to find out how far you can cast get on the field! Ive seen lots of supposed 250yd casters struggle to hit 180!!

to true, a couple of guys fishn on horden beach during summer told me they were hitn 200+ and getn ova sand bar, what a joke, am not a huge caster by any means but i paced my cast on seaton beach at 147yds but that was a 5oz plain lead and no bait!
So with bait and grips maybe am hitn 110 if am lucky and these 2 lads were about level with my casts, some guys just dont seam to be able to judge distance... or weight come to that lol

Aye Harry think i know where your on about fished there a couple of times, plenty of space there too as you say.270 yds bank to bank that`s some distance lol. Thanks for the replies chaps.

Suppose your right Andy may have to give it a bash. Was building an extension on a local golf club house not so long back, and was looking at the distance`s on the driving range. Was looking at the 200yard marker, that`s some distance...well in my eyes it was. Some achievement for you`s lads that can hit that and a bit more.

I thought it was 200yds across at that point. I used to practice cast just to the left of the jetty where the path widens and was able to get a lead up onto the opposite pathway and I'm not a tournament caster by any stretch of the imagination.

If I remeber correctly Alec Harvey used some kind of laser measuring device and that's the reason we used to cast there.

Like Cod cod cod says check out Google earth, it has a ruler on the toolbar click on it and a box pops up and you can measure point to point, I practice at Hebburn marina on grass so as to get close as possible to tournament conditions, its about 230yds which is ample for practice reels

If It's just past the bridge on the wooden platforms its roughly 200yards.

and the rest. we used to cast a lot there in the early eighties and as harry says, and a m8 of mine who cast wth harry says at least 270 other mark.

hahahahaha......how wrong you are,is this roughly 200yds or 270yds.

We used to use this venue to practice or test out new rods and reels.
We would normally meet up here at 2hrs before hw and this would be on a Saturday the day before we would travel down to Peterborough to attend the UKSF casting tournament at the show ground.
Some of the casters on a Saturday would be..
Lu Marsen.......240yds plus caster.
Peter Lacey....250yds plus caster.
Malcolm Barrow...260yds plus caster.
And quite a few others that were good hands at the tournament.

Non of these lads during practice has put a lead on the far bank..

So your prediction that is roughly 200yds is a mile wrong..sorry.
Do you not think that if it was only 200yds it would be used as a practice spot.:red::red::red:

I was there one time and saw Malcolm put a lead over the railings on the other side, pretty amazing. I think off to the left its probably around 235 yds, off to the right its deffo 260ish+

Down from St peters club traffic lights, byker tip over to gateshead stadium side i would estimate to be about 210yds to the other side.
