Tynemouth Pier

To all who fish the pier wether it be legally with a club, or illegally after the pier watchman clocks off.Can you please take all your rubbish with you when you finish ,please.There is rumours that the Port of Tyne Authority are trying to stop the clubs fishing matches on the pier.This would be a great loss to the clubs and especially to the retired members.I'm not saying that club members are entirely blameless,but the clubs will be an easier target for the Authority to hit first.Think on if this was to happen what steps would the Authority then take to stop other:question:

This rumour has been going for years. When i first started sea fishing around 4 years ago with a local club this was one of the first things i was told about tynemouth pier. Some mornings when you go on there the place is like a fooking tip. People carry the rubbish on why cant they carry there rubbish of. Nothing will change and when they do close the pier to the clubs it wont make a bit of differance.

that rumour was going around about south shields pier to the were planning on putting the second gates back up due to the rubbish and people who were going makie bashing leaving dead fish and guts on the end its a shame for us if the eventualy do that but dont think it will happen people will just cut them down with batter grinders in the dark as will not be able to see that far up the pier once it locked it dont get checked till it opens again the next day

So lets say both piers do get closed to anglers.The port of Tyne authority installed new and bigger gates and barriers and just for good measure they install cctv. Ok the gates and barriers may not be to big a problem to some out there. But I work with cctv and without giving any secrets away most would be quite amazed as to the quality of images given to an operator from the smallest of cameras used.Cameras that are in operation 24hours 7 days a week 365 days of the year recording onto hardrive storing evidence to be used in court.

true i agree with you on the cctv but would they worent the amount of cash it would take and to install and the up keep and servicing they might do but on the other hand they might not

There's already a camera in place on Tynemouth pier,but as you said would the cost be of putting or as we all know authorities love spending our money.

Last time on seaham pier i picked up rubbish and line etc and put it my big cooler box and then binned it when i got home.

Its not just the piers though is it. Its every mark virtually in the country. Went to Dunstanbourgh(sp) castle last year and that was a tip. Everyone that has been to the mull will also tell you its like that overthere aswell. The worst place ive seen is rathouse corner. Fished there twice and what a tip the place was both timesw. Someone posted a pic of the place on here last year, its a shame really because its a safe(ish) mark for kids.

Sid's got the right idea "Don't drop rubbish" easy - if you see other people dropping rubbish, not soo easy but I would suggest have a word. Some anglers who don't know better think there rubbish will be blown or washed off marks and miraculously disappear. Wrong on 2 accounts - 1 it may not be, 2 it shouldn't be in the sea anyway. Many others are just lazy. Mind when you see the areas people have to live in it's no wonder they treat the coast in the same way.

Cameras, closing piers, jumping over gates etc; the point is we should all carry our litter home with us or at least put it in a bin as we come off the pier, its not difficult.

If there is litter on the pier when you get there, do the proper thing, even though its not yours pick it up.

I know it has been said many times and once again in this thread, the Port of Tyne threaten to close piers at least once a year, make no mistake one day they will.

It cost less to put up cctv than it would a mans wage to keep the pier clean.

i had to clear up last night at blyth harbour.
someone had left all the cling film from crabs, paper, plastic, line etc.
there was a bin 20yrds away!
took all of 2mins to pick it up.

had to do the same at colywell bay the other week as well, razor packets and cling film.

i would hate to see the state of some of these people houses if they just dump rubbish at their feet all the time.

i agree if they cant tidy up after them selves what must it say about there genral habbits at home and work if you cant tidy up dont make a mess

the litter louts will be the first to moan if we end up with no entry to fishing marks
just for the sake of a few mins tidying up after a sess

I'm with you all the way regarding Dunstanburgh Castle,the staff there do all anglers a big favour by letting them through the grounds free,and what do some anglers do to return the favour turn it in to a sh**hole.Your on private land more or less English Heritage and National Trust own the place I'm quite sure if they wanted to they could put a ban on all anglers on all their property.I've fished all four seasons,summer seems to be the worst I've seen me fill 3/4 carry bags some days which the castle staff are quite happy to dispose for you and if its your own take it home we all have a wheelie bin and if thats to much trouble theres litter bins to be found.
