What's the crack with fishing there, do you need to be a member of the club?
And why do I never see people fishing off the upper level?

You have to be a member of tynemouth or longbenton and seaton burn fishing clubs and can only fish into the river for safety reasons, however it doesn't stop some anglers climbing round and fishing the top section at night.

You are not allowed to fish on the pier, unless you are a member of one of the three or four clubs that have matches on the pier, but at a night time you can get on and fish when the pier watchmen has gone but this means a climb around the gates.

thanks lads- was hoping to pop down with the float of an evening for a session but not being a memberr of those clubs, I best not. Does anyone check you're a memebr though, I mean are they really bothered if you keep yourself to yourself?

fish after they gates are locked when clocky has gone then youre fishing at ya own risk no one gets checked just dont try fish whilst open during the day or when its rough waves pounding over the top

You can only fish the pier when participating in club matches, not on an ad-hoc basis, this is for PI insurance reasons. It is classed as trespassing if you access the pier after it has closed. Although no legal action has been taken for tresspassing, in the past the police have taken names and passed them onto PTA, who I believe could press charges.
