Tynemouth & Southshield pier

Just got in from the fish quay where I went today for fish and chips. While having them there were loads of police cars about and some came into the little car park just at the end of the fish quay, then we noticed they were parked right along to Tynemouth - some with their lights flashing - and the RNLI were searching the Tyne next to the rocks etc with the big boat and the RIB, then they were followed by the police as well. They must have searched for well over half a hour so it looks like bad news for someone, sadly. The Tyne was raging, the waves were massive and they were crashing over both Tynemouth Pier and South Shields Pier, so hopefuly none of us fellow anglers were washed off. It's at times like this you realise what a great job the rescue services do risking there own lives to save others. At times you could only see the RNLI RIB driver and crew as the waves were so large the RIB kept disappearing from sight.

I was fishing there until 3:30am this morning & the river was well rough, rain pouring off & on & the wind coming with it, was a weird night, had a hell of a swell on the river, I was fishing below Notts flats & the odd swell was splashing over, I did notice 1 or 2 fishing off the North pier which must have been bad, maybe that's where something has happened?.

is that the flats along from the fish quay towards tynemouth mate as thats where most of the police cars were just next to the rocks and the ribs kept going around the rocks as well .

That's exactly where i was fishing into those rocks & like i says the conditions were well bad. I have checked the local news etc & nothing on there.

R.n.l.i.

This is one charity that gets my 100% support and gratitude for the service they provide. Three cheer's for the r.n.l.i.

Air ambulance and RNLI are the only two i give cash to every year.

Cracking job they do and when we having a xmas lunch they manning the station radio and on call.

There was a report of a body in the water but it turned out to be some surfers off the black midden rocks!!!!

seems a strange place to be surfing in the tyne if this was the case they wasted a lot of emergency services and other peoples lives. To me the Rnli etc are unsung hero's always putting others first and risking there own lives these are the type of people i look up to not footbalers or singers etc.

Have seen surfer's in and around the area of the Black Middens before whilst fishing a club competition on Tyemouth pier.

This was definitely the case, i am a crew member of blyth lifeboat and was listening to the to the incident on the vhf. I have also seen surfers there before when i have came into the tyne on our research boat.
I still think they must be mad!!!!!!!
