Unbalanced 525 mag xtra spool

It's not a car wheel mate, more likely the spool that you fitted has a bent spindle or you aint fitted it correctly. Take it apart and check break blocks etc. and that there's nothing stuck in there.

never had any bother with my 525 i just reel them on level. i know some supermag spools are nearly impossible to get balanced. if u have a standard 525 mag try that spool in the mag extra to see if its the spool. if it was quiet before tho it should be ok

525 mags have a sperate spindle !!
They dont have blocks either!
I will have a look at the reel for you Adam!
Sounds like a bearing to me, check you have some sideplay on the spool and the frame / spindle is correctly aligned and there is no sand or swarf between spool and frame. The reel bearings do have oil in them, with a touch on the spindle? WD40 is no good!
Also check a magnet hasn't jumped ship, 525s often lose their magnets from the holder.

i agree with chukka deffo sounds like a bearing has gone same happened to me the reel was fine on min the next trip it was making grinding noises when took it apart one of the bearings from the handle had blown up into little bits but i also remeber on my first ever 525 mag the spindle did bend and had to replace it but that was because when i got into a fast i would try to pull it out without wrapping the line round me hand
Thanks for all your help i have put the spool from my mag xtra into my normal mag to see if its the spool what is causing the noise or f it is still making the noise with the other spool in which probably means its the bearings or something else. will try and get a few casts with it soon to see if the problem is still occuring. Also i may have to take you up on the offer Andy if it is the bearings as i dont want to take them out myself and completely destroy my reel

tell ya wat i did mate when i came 2 re linen me reels i put sum 12lb line on fist use a bit ov black tape 2 put it on wit so u dont have a knot on 1 side then put backing line on, then tie your line that ur goin 2 use. jobs a gud un kepps ur reel nice and smooth
Ah right. Never had a mag reel myself, I was just making some suggetions for the problem other than unbalanced spool mate.

just another angle on your reel, I was using a mitchell reel that developed a clicking noise then it cleared and I thought nothing more of it.
The next fishing session after about 3 casts and retrives their was an allmighty crack from the reel as i baited up and the reel had seized. I found that the reel drum had split intwo, it was a plastic one.

more than likely it will be down to the line how it is put on spool the prob the first 20 or 30 yds has to be right for the spool.
niel mackellow sent me a dvd it shows how to put the first bit of line on you are quite welcome to borrow it .if you do a search on youtube you may also find a vid on there on how to balance your spool by laying your line on in diff ways .9 times out of 10 it works.
very unlikely it will be a bent spindle or bad spool.
