Unexpected bonus

Headed down to SSP at 4 bells this morning with the spinning gear to have a crack for macky. It quickly turned into one of those sessions that makes you realise why you love fishing. Started off getting sand eels, so I thought, what the hell, I'll stick a bit on the bottom and see if any flatties are about. Sure enough, within 5 minutes I had a decent size dab. Then stuck the feathers on and got 2 coleys and a small herring. No sign of Macky though. Still, I persisted and ended up getting one around 2lb. Happy with my couple of hours, I chucked a strip of sand eel out on a size 2 hook in search of flatties whilst I was packing up. Within 5 minutes, the rod went thump and I pulled in a cod around 4lb. What a session! Will stick pics on later.

If you fish the weed in the summer you can get cod well over 4lb. Canny catch all the same though.
