I don't know for a fact , but I'd guess so , there are boating clubs all the way up to Newburn so it's navigable that far , I'd guess the only thing that might stop you in a yacht is the height of your mast for passing under bridges.
Some of the tyne boaters will know for sure though.

cheers mate its not my boat and the mate of mine who owns it is new to it all if the weather is anything like today it should be canny hopefully i'll get some good pictures thats if i get home safe but you got to learn sometime im sure there will be some people to help him out later when he takes her out through the piers cheers

you can can get quite way past newburn if you've a mind to.
check the port of tyne navigation notices on the day, the river has been closed quite a few times at howden recently for work on the tunnel
depending on your airdraft (height of mast top above water) you might need the bridges opening
radio tyne VTS on channel 12 and they will tell you wether the millenium bridge can be opened and/or the swing bridge. they do still open the swing bridge if requested. although asking in rush hour might not be popular
there's a council visitors pontoon by the millenium bridge you can tie up to if you want
minimum depth in the centre of the channel is 5m as far as dunston, no longer a maintained depth beyond that but should be 3mtres but there are a few mudbanks developing now

cheers Mark oh hell cheers lads for the info been out for a few beers tonight i might be the first to get sea sick going up the tyne.
talked to some lads tonight and newburn seems like the limit my buddy got the boat last year i got an old salty dog to help him bring it down from amble a few weeks ago its a sea witch, mark 19 ft nice little yacht somehow i cant see us fishing from the can this year he calls the bow the pointy end oh well wish me luck and again thanks for the help if your about at RQM tomorrow afternoon come over and talk me out of it lol

I have not seen the swing bridge opened since i was about 12 year old, would love to see it again sometime, I only live 1 mile from the bridge as well.
You can navigate up to Newburn. I have a boat at Lemington. However you are restricted by your mast. Depending on height you may not get under the millenium bridge. You won't get under the swing bridge but you can have it opened. I think you have to give a days notice and I think it costs 80 quid. Then you have Scotswood Bridge and the old railway bridge just beyond which is quite low. Some of the guys with yachts at Lemington are devising pulley systems to lower the mast.
You can still get down as far as the Millenium bridge from Royal Quays which is still a nice run and gets you into the city centre. You can moor at the council pontoon, not sure who you ask. Or the visitors pontoon at St Peters marina. There a pub there for a few pints.
