went out with davie on the upholder yesterday,me and 2 frinds,it was a slow day and the fishing was hard work,been out a few times before with davie but will not be going back,he cut our trip short with out asking any one on board to tow anothe boat in,then to top that he charged £32,rip off,i will be sticking to the bon amie(duggy hogg)at craster £20,or the war lord amble £25,you have lost a good customer davie,would not of minded paying £32 if you had went out wreking but sitting 2miles off shore on the rough ground is a total rip off.

I admit your trip was cut short, but he was kind enough to lend a hand to another boat in distress. I and many others would probably do the same in his position.:)

Anyways, £32 for a trip aint bad, try going down south where your paying between £40 and £70 per trip:o, and its all to do with the quality of fishing and mainly, the price of the diesel needed.;)

By far you sound angry about it, but you've made me angry complaining:mad:... If you were the only boat nearby and had a call over the VHF asking for assistance, I would help them, hell with the fishing, there a more serious concern for THE OTHER ANGLERS LIVES!!!:cool:
 
I would imagine almost every skipper here would assist another vessel in trouble without asking for the passengers consent.
 
we were not the only boat out there,the lad who's boat had lost the prop was on tow by his coson who wanted to stop out fishing so davie cut our trip short,and i dont live down south i live in the real world!

Its just the same anywhere mate, beside the upholder mite have been a much bigger boat than the one that had to tow it in, so he decided to help. Anyways if they stayed oot fishing, and there from amble, begs the question why did you not ask them if you could go on thier boat???

(If it wasnt already full of anglers or you didnt thinl of that at the time...:);))
 
i can understand both sides of the coin...to me if i was the skipper i would have appologised and said 'helping boats comes first'....then maybe just asked for money towards fuel so rather than 32 quid just say 10 each....and a reserved spot for the next time they want to go out...that way everyone is happy in my opinion.
 
it was a **** take,you may be willing to pay £3o-£70 for a trip but im not,i was out with him last year and it was £25,he never told me it had went up by £7 in a year or i would not of booked up,ill not be back on his boat.

i agree mate. if its cut short he should reduce the price.

Fair do's mate. I rarely boat fish but if a ever fancy a session a would happily ablige to whatever payment come rain or shine. The last time a was oot on a boat was on the Sarah JFK, cost me £35 and was a cracking session, cod coming up left, right and center...
 
I also can see both sides of this, i would hate to think that anyone refussed to tow me back in if i was in trouble, i have towed one boat back in so far and i would not pass anyone asking for help a is know what it's like to break down at sea, happened once.

I also understand its a pain if you save up and your trip is cut short after being built up for it, as for the cost going up..well thats the price of fuel and insurnace, my boat insurance for a small boat has gone up £40 this year and the cost of a normal trip out from last year is now costing me a good £8-£10 more than last year.

Loads of charters if your not happy anyway but do feel anyone of them would tow someone back in.

As for rough ground..its been fishing its tits off up north since mid March, i would say 3 fish on the rough ground up there to every fish from the wrecks down here at least.
 
£35 on the jfk is not bad, he goes from reck to reck not just sitting 2mile's off shore on rough groud.£7 per person 12 anglers per day=£84 £504 on a 5 day week???????????????????? fuel has not gone up that much!!!!!!!!!!!

i do believe, that there is a legal requirement,if not moral to go to the assistance of another vessel in trouble.did you take up your grievance of payment/fishing area with the skipper,and give him the chance to explain:question:
 
My last trip on a charter was whitby, trip was cut short by 3 hours instead of 40 we paid 25. Cutting a trip short to help a fellow boat is a must, but I also think a price reduction is a must.
 
£25 to £32 in 12 months isn't bad considering what we pay at the pumps for our cars

can't comment on the shortened trip and the ethics therein but helping a boat in trouble goes without saying
 
i would go to any boat in distress but you would think he should of give you some discount depending on how long was left of the trip
 
I remember the 1st time I was out on my boat I had to tow another boat out of the mouth of the tyne because he had a flat battery and the ferry was bearing down on him. I had a spare battery so we managed to jump start him after.

It's not just fuel...... mooring fees, insurance, sevicing costs, repairs etc, etc, plus you quote a 5 day week, how many 5 day weeks does a charter skipper get to do in a year, very few, so it adds up to an average over 12 months, all of these things have gone up, so complaining about 7 quid is laughable really, if the shoe was on the other foot and your boat had broken down how would you have felt then.....sorry if this seems a bit of a rant but i think sometimes charter boat skippers get a rough deal....
