Hi all,i\'am looking for a supplier of vermiculite (hope the spelling is correct).I was told you could buy it from garden centres but the vermiculite i saw was of fine grade and the assistant said thats all they get in,he said if i new the grade i wanted they might be able to help me,i did\'nt know that either lol.

alan go to keyline builders merchants,i pay £11 a bag that lasts all year even with the amount of fishing i do.
jewsons used to do it but the last couple of times i have been in they said they dont stock it now.

gogs.

which garden centre was it?? most of the ones i\'ve been in sell the same grade as I get with me worms (didn\'t know it came in grades to be honest!)

grade 1 i think it is alan, cant have a look at the bag as i had to put the vermiculite into a bin bag as the sun made the bag split and spill all over my shed :( its the bigger stuff the same as you get from seabait with your rag and i have used it for years to keep my lug in prime condition.keyline only sell the one type anyway alan, guarenteed to be cheaper than the garden centreand its a bloody big bag aswell lol.

Not the way I\'d keep my rag but hey different strokes for different folks. I find by far the best way and the cheapest is to use sea water.

If buying from a garden centre I\'d watch as some vermiculite is chemically treated and is not that suitable for the rag.

You may pick some up cheaper if you ask if they have any ripped bags of the stuff!

rab lug keep for a week in it if you stick them in a cold fridge rag keep slighty longer 10days tops (rag that have been self dug not seabait)

I wouldn\'t use vermiculite for rag in the first place due to the fact their predatory nature means they regularly ingest the substrate which they can\'t bring up again due to a lack of a reguratory system.

Gogs I don\'t buy farmed stuff as in my opinion it is second rate! Sea water is a much better way to keep rag. In tubs with about 1/4 of an inch of sw I\'ve kept them in good nick for 5 weeks +.

Re: vermiculite being treated, that is what I heard from a tackle shop dealer in Helensburgh who certainly knew his stuff about bait as he ran probably the finest bait shop in Scotland IMO!
