Walkway 27/09/12

[Thunderpants]

I fished the Walkway in South Shields last night 9pm to 2am. From the talk on here I was expecting a lot of weed so set up with 35lb line straight through and no leader knot to avoid getting weeded up. I did bring in some small lumps on my rig and grip lead but nothing to be bothered about really. The fishing was good too with plenty of action to keep me busy. I ended up with twelve fish - eleven whiting and a dab. Most of the whiting were around 37 to 39cm size though there were some smaller ones. I kept the three biggest and returned the rest. The dab was 30cm. I also caught an edible crab but was not sure if it was big enough to keep so returned it. Anyone know what size they need to be to keep ? This one was 11cm across the back.

Baits used lug, squid and mackie. So no cod for me but a fun night all the same.

Nice report Mike, I had a few chucks there on the morning and it became unfishable with the weed. I reckon I must of emptied it out for you the amount I pulled out.

Thanks Coddy, so it was 2cm undersize then. I'll try and get it again when it has grown a bit bigger and grown its arm back

might be mistaking but that dab looks on the pic 30cm and im sure the north east record for a dab is 1lb 1oz coz i got one last year bang on 1lb when i weighed it but thats was a few hours after i caught it so mine could of been lol

I got a mission badge from sea angler for a 1lb 8oz dab it was 36cm, I've heard of bigger 1's than that too so 1lb 1oz is a mile away from a record lol

Hey that would be cool. Yes it was 30cm. I've got a 33cm one in the freezer too that I caught on the pier a month ago. Maybe I should thaw it out and take a pic for Sea Angler
