Walkway Monster Plaice

Had a real good mornings fishing on the walkway today with the last of our winter trophy matches being fished. Must have been my lucky day everyone else in the competition blanked.
Anyhow the reason for the post was a dustbin lid of plaice I got at low water I estimate it at about 47 cm (my measure doesn't go farther) and it weighed 2lb 8 oz. I ended up with 3 Dabs and a Coalie as well for 5 lb 7 oz. I also had 6 Codling 25 - 34 cm so they didn't count. Most fish were on Ragworm but the plaice was on lugworm.

Thats a cracker of a Flounder.
It will probably have spawned so might have gone the magic 3lb a couple of month ago.
There were a few big Flounder taken in the match on the Wear today, but not that big.....

Flounder and a good one.
Well done.
Mick.
ps i know its a flounder because i caught a nice Plaice in Norway which was over two pound. If you check my posts for fishing you will see it under Havag Fritid.

Nope it is a plaice the picture is just crap and you can't see the spots too well. Slightly better picture this time. Smooth spine and lumpy bits on the head.

Must admit I'm with TerryC on this. If it is smooth with a knobbly head it can still be a plaice. It does look flounder-y but look at the tail - quite plaice-like... just a shame it's fins aren't more stretched out in the photo. Spent plaice swimming in the murky Tyne can virtually loose their spots like this fish....

MONSTER plaice

MONSTER plaice

Avery good report TerryC m8t looks like a good session too as plenty of fish and to catch a plaice that size lifts your moral immediatly so well done and good luck to you :D:D:D
