I fished the walkway today 8.30-1.00, I thought fishing had picked up but how wrong was I to be, first 2 and half hours went without a bite. I tell a lie a few crab bites to keep me on my toes, they were on the end of my hooks not my toes. :D

I used bluey on a scratching 2 hook flapper rig with size 1 hooks on 1 rod, mostly coming back stripped or with a crab on, the other rod 3/0 wide gape hooks with frozen blacks and big fresh crab baits. As I say nowt for a few hours then a new crab bait went out hadn't even hit the bottom and my rod was going mental, brought it in with my first sized cod at 36cm 1lb 4oz.

They can only get bigger from now on I think/hope/would like. :)

Well done mate. Now the 1st one's in you won't be able to keep them off your hooks:D:D:D

Only fished there once before although i can now get there in about 15mins. We will have to meet up sometime so you can show me the best way to fish it.

Cheers
Davy

Cheers for the replies lads, I used to hate the walkway Mick I would lose everything. Its just one of those things I guess you have to learn to fish spots, I rarely lose anything now, it just puts me off fishing the place sometimes because of the trolls you get down there at times.

Well done on the Cod mate!
I'll have to get myself back out soon, haven't fished for ages.
Too much football on the telly at the minute.

Well done pete nice fish I haven't fished the walkway for a month or so kept getting caught on an old rope, fished the pier rail end for an hour today but got sick of the wind as it started to get stronger the rod tip was just bouncing around so came home for a cuppa

Cheers lads, :) my next mark to conquer is the pier, had plenty of mackerel and launce on the spinner but never bait fished it, well I have fished the slab and first gate areas like so that was a bit of a lie lol. What's it like at the rail end, I have a pier guide that JV made on his blog which is brilliant for the different spots.

I thought I hadn't seen you about for a while like Mark.

I find the rail end a canny spot had a few good coley's & lot of flaty's never lost much gear mainly hook traces as it gets a bit kelp but once you start winding in keep it coming & you should be ok, sure some of the lads who fish the Pier on a regular basis will have more info & everyone had his own opinion as well but best way to find out is give it a go.
