Fished the Wansbeck, Cambois side on the wall at the harbour mouth tonite. Took 2 light rods (my spinning rods) fished rag tipped with mackeral, 2oz sinkers and 2 hooks on one rod, single on the other.
Arrived just after 5pm, entrance road to where the sheds are is chained off (not often I've seen that), parked up in the carpark opposite the pub and walked along the road down to the water... Nice light current, light breeze and a high tide near dusk (always find dusk/dawn tides the best here). Lot of crabs, not too much weed though there was some small bits on the line with each chuck. First fish was within 15mins, Plaice to about a pound and a half, very clean and healthy looking, well marked, took another one about the same size just before leaving (7.20pm ish). Picked up 4 nice Flounders, again very clean - not a single one double sided or with any of the dark side markings appearing on the white belly, smaller than the Plaice, I guess around the 1lb mark each.
Been a while since I last fished this spot, usually I go for the morning tides when it's quiet there so I can get on the corner facing up-river. Not as many fish as I've had in the past on similar sessions but nice to see they were all in good health and of similar sizes.
Casting - one rod following the line of the harbour wall directly upriver (there's a small boat moored, aim towards that, light chuck of about 25-30' at most. Other rod diagonally into the bay, there's a pylon as guidance if you think where the college is in Ashington as a direction.. bit further out - that's where the Plaice were...
If anyone's looking for a spot to fish tomorrow, I'd say probably around 5.30am for 3hrs or so it should fish nicely if the weather and sea state stay the same going off past experience (been fishing the same spot off and on for at least 10yrs, not often I've blanked there at this time of year)..
