Some on here seem to think the Council close the pier just for the fun of it,and comparing it too other piers is a bit misleading,Roker is a lot lower to the water than most others with the exception of Seaham, they could not let anglers on and not the general public as once granting permission they would then be liable for any loss or injury, even someone being washed off after climbing on the pier would be a test case as they could argue that the council did not do enough to deny access, there is negotiations going on between anglers and the council regarding access to lost areas and people climbing the gates are harming this work, this is the ammunition they need to block any progress, unfortunately its a small minority that give little thought to the majority and the people trying to help them get back lost fishing areas.......
