Maybe if you have a fishing boat you should call it jet ski 1 paint it all different load colours and sail at 20 knots in river that way you will be exempt from all insurance and liability, then moor up at pier snagg anglers lines, then climb up pier drink cider smoke dope then kill under size fish for fun oh then shat on pier and all will be well, the pier is in the port but the port authorities cant enforce rules on pier hahah cop out;lol!!!

Funny you should say this Mark,This was spoken about who was responsible for the piers and footstones.
And this is the reply.

If there is public on the pier then its the responsibility of Sunderland resorts and police.

If the pier is empty them Sunderland port control is responsible, I know it's a funny one but thats what I was told.
Sunderland resorts contacts Ash Curl on 0191 5532828

funny thing iz i seen the rib yesterday and guess what hes doing more than 6 knots playing on hes boat ,and causing wavelets whilst im doing my crab shelters very naughty man shame on you :D

Well, my post has got everyone talking, and if anyone from the Port of Sunderland and from Sunderland Police Service are reading any of this thread, then maybe we can get the problems of both Boat Anglers and Shore Anglers sorted at the same time.

But I won't hold my breath.

Port of Sunderland say "it is a police resposibilty"
Police say " its the Port of Sunderland rsponsibility"

PASS THE BUCK.

Was this a jetski or a boat at 10 mile out?

It was exactly the same at the air show. Me and the Missus were at anchor just outside the piers. These two kids on a rib were weaving in and out the boats at about 15 knots.

I think the patrol officers should exercise common sence. If a boat is tearing past rat house corner then fine them.

If someone is doing 7 knots then tell them to slow down.

Regardless of what type of watercraft it is.

Rant over

I'm off to try my jet boat out....;)

Just to add in again the patrol is basically there to stop people being stupid in the river where the speed limit has been in place for years.

If a fishing boat comes out of the marina and heads to open sea at 10 knotts we (well me and a couple others) will not give chase trying to tell them to slow down, we know most people who have fishing boats are 'normally' sensible and know how to drive a boat. If the boat comes out and it doing 20 knotts then yes we will ask them to ease up.

If there is a speed boat or jet ski staying in the river flying about then we will go over and see them (if we can) or catch them when they are coming in.

I cant see the patrol bothering many fishing boats unless they really take the mick, the patrol is there to try and keep the river users safe.

I would also add there are 8 people doing the job in 2 man (and women) teams, people are different and will see things differently.

So end of the day patrol is just trying to keep the river safe and trying to stop people on the river taking the mick.

One of the big problems regarding "Jet-ski's" is that under the International "Rules of the Road" they are not deemed as a vessel. This has been used in a couple of legal cases; and the after appeal; the judge came down on the side of the Jet-ski.

The below paper explains the legal position re-Jetski's and there classification as a vessel or not..
