Which Watergate are you considering fishing?
The only Watergate I know is the Park at Whickham, which is owned by Gateshead Council. It's a big lake but is quite dead, yes there are Sticklebacks in there but every once in a while it gets a influx of sewage from a drain, which tends to nail the fish that have been stocked/put in by the locals (a regular thing)!
