The first few days of the spring festival has been hit with strong winds so yesterday with the forcast as it was we had only one option to drop the ankhor the lads were keen to get out so i said lets go for it over the past few years i have done this in april and got some shocks with cod well into double figures even as late as april uptiding you just never know unless you try.
This time last year the weather was fabulas and the fishing was very very good with stacks of cod coming off the inshore wrecks saving on steaming time going out to the 20 mile the fishing yesterday wasnt fast but the lads still managed to catch cod no big fish but it turned out a nice day after a vry cold start we did get a surprize what i thought was a spurdog when we went to net it at the side of the boat turned out to be a smoothhound not a big one it was weighed back in the harbour then returned and it swam off to fisht another day.

This was the smoothhound back in the harbour weighed before released.

These fish kickstart the competition but i am sure some bigger fish will come to the scales over the next 2 weeks all the same steve hewitt won himself £70 for getting 1st and 3rd yesterday and he loved the day out.

Good report Paul, pleased you's got into som fish +that bonus smoothound, so all was not lost for the comp. Roll on light south westerly's and a temperature rise of at least 10deg.
