its snowing!

ok, bit obvious.

Actually its SNOWING

where it laying flat here, its now between 2 and 3 feet deep, so did the sensible thing and went for a drive! Got to the top of the bank crawleyside/stanhope so out of the relative shelter of the hills.

wow!

worst I\'ve ever seen it here. where its drifting there are banks of snow 12 to 14 feet high. one of the big monster 4x4 tractors must of got stuck earlier and was almost toally covered. as fast as the ploughs were pushing it out of the way, the wind put it back again. All the high roads in and out of the dale are totally blocked, even the big tractors can\'t get through.

could be another 24 hours of it still to come!

mark - i have got to go to Heather view caravan park next week (tues) are the roads ok -coming down the 68 then right, onto the road that takes you to stanope dont know what its number is but its a B road (just before the Brown Horse pub on the 68) is it passable now or weather permitting will it be on Tues

Cheers BriH

the 68 is closed along there at the minute, but if it stops snowing will be open again tommorrow I would of thought, sat at the latest. the A689 up the dale to alston is closed from wearhead. the A686 hexham to Alston is closed, as is the A66 brough/stainmore.

all the B roads in the dale are now closed

coming from the east you can get up past westgate to St johns Chapel, but the bit from there to Wearhead is iffy if your not in a decent 4x4

the bank down into wolsingham off the A68 has a pile of cars that folks wanted to use as sledges at the bottom, so unless it clears up a lot, I\'d stay on the 68 to the big roundabout for Crook and come up dale that way

there\'s a boat iunder there somewhere

took nearly 4 hours to get the car from the front of the house to the back of the house this morning, a distance of maybe 100yards with my improvised snowplough (subaru justy!)

probably leave the other car here for a while

still snowing now, has come down consistently now for nearly 48 hours, on and off through monday and tuesday(more on than off)

saw the bit on look north with the nice policeman stuck, we turned around about a mile ahead of them!

looks more like siberia with conditions like that, hard to believe that at my house now you would never have thought we had any snow at all, nice pics though Mark............................................so i take it you wont be out fishing for a few days then ????
