Weever fish

I was careless enough to get myself stung by a weever fish during a club match on Tynemouth pier today. Had 2 on the sane cast and had unhooked the first ok but then was pricked by the second as I threw it back. Had heard that it was painful and it certainly is! Nasty little b*****s.

We were on Shields pier tonight Paul and one of the lads pulled one in on there too. Can't be too careful with them, thank's for the warning mate. Hope your hand is ok now.

take it you had a mild readtion to its sting, i have seen grown muscles bound hunks in tears and others having to be taken to hospital during my time as a lifeguard on Tynemouth beach. They can be very nasty.

I have posted this before but years ago when my two sons were small, I always made them wear trainers when on the beach from the end of August onwards.

Far safer than sorry.

I got stung in Crete it does hurt a tad like.

there has been loads around this year was getting double shots of the little buggers from seaham pier earlier this year! only treatment iam aware of is dunking whichever part of you is stung in water as hot as you can take it! neutralises the venom apparently.

The venom is protein based and as flathead says, very hot water is the 'first aid' treatment which cooks the venom and stops it working. If you haven't got any hot water available pissing on it can help.

the hot water is correct, stands the same for anyone keeping tropical marines who has lionfish. Was a previous thread about weavers a couple of months back - http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=9266

ohh and urine works more for jellyfish stings btw.
