ive just bought a little set of scales to weigh my catch just as a rough idea how big they are instead of guessing (and adding an extra 20pound on the the fish) would the easiest way to be unhook the fish and put it in a plastic bag and weigh it on the scales that way? or is there an easier way to get a more accurate reading? thanks chaps :)

Just stick the hook of the spring balance underneath it's gill and weigh it after unhooking, it'll only take seconds then yer can hoy it back:confused:

Just make or buy a weighing sling, A piece of material with some string tied to each side, Lay the fish on the material then hook the string on the scales :)

ah easy tar, that's why I mentioned the carrier bag so could easily weigh it without to much damage to the fish

Well if yer can imagine this, the fish has just been hauled 20ft up the side of shields pier by a 3/0 sakuma stuck in it's gob so I don't think it will be to worried by a blunt smooth weighing scale hook getting lodged underneath it's gill for a few seconds while being weighed. Not saying yer hauling fish up shields pier mate, just trying to put the issue into context.
