We've been up here since last week and finally managed to get a chance for a few hours from the rocks.

I'd only packed a small spinning rod and cheapo reel as I didnt know if i'd get the time. Anyway, it's a lovely place, nice and quiet, and some great scenery.

Tried floating prawn and mackerel strip, and a few different spinners, but nowt. So stuck on some feathers to see if the mackie were around, non there but plenty of coalies on the feathers, nowt of any great size, came in ones and the odd double shot. Nice clean fish and really makes a difference on small rod and light tackle.

Must be the time of yr mate it looks a canny place to fish and relativley easy for a rock mark. Well done on the coalies anyway

Surprised there were no mackerel showing, as we had a fair few on Saturday, just across the water from you at Blairmore. Mind you that's fishing for you, we have caught plenty one week and blanked the next!

Glad you caught some coalies. Are you still here at the weekend? We are just up the road from Wemyss Bay and will be going out again at this Saturday.

Leaving on friday mate. Its been a great week, the fishing was more of an after thought really. I know for next time like.

There looks to be a good few marks around this place.

Well next time you're up message me beforehand. I am no expert, but I do know a few marks around here that can produce fish, which I'd be glad to share.

Nothing great I'm afraid, but coalies, doggies, wrasse and mackerel, and the occasional surprise.

30 years ago the mark you fished known as the red rocks was noted for good fishing for most species especialy codling, and i dont mean a few.Just up the coast is the famous clock lighthouse where you would have great cod fishing with every chance of a 20lber,not a sniff now.At Largs you could go boatfishing and within 10mins you were pulling in cod and haddock until your arms were burning,i had a 9lb 8oz haddock off one of these boats but sadly this mecca was fished out in the eighties when the factory ships made an apperance:mad:
Ifear your catch was as good as it gets at any time of year, unless you count mackerel. Thanks for bringing those memories flooding back and im sure youll enjoy your holiday anyway.

Sadly never a truer word !

Yeh I'd heard about the place being cleaned out. Its ridiculous how far downhill the fishing has went around this area.

I'd only stuck the rod n reel in as an after thought when packing as it's mainly a holiday for the kids, but after a few walks round the bay some of the rock marks looked worth a try spinning. Water is crystal clear and there were loads of razor shells on the beach.

I also hooked a fresh mackie head onto a hand line in chucked it in and after 2 hours not a crab or anything had tAken a nibble.

I guess it's no better in the winter?

It's worse in the winter - no mackerel!

That's why we come down your way 3 times a year.

In 1983 the 3 mile limit was revoked for trawlers under a certain length. 5 years later the Clyde was effevtively empty. Watched it all from my window.

Heartbreaking.

I've fished loch goil a few times not to long ago and it's dead. Even fishing off the boat we just had the odd macky and small coddy's. It's been wiped out I think. Anyways at least yer got a couple of fish mate.

I travelled from wemyss bay to the isle of bute 5 years ago for a weeks fishing. We had small Pollock, mackrel and some wrasse upto 4lb.

The fishing wasn't fantastic but the scenery, the people and pubs were :)

Well done on the Coalies. Same here at Seahouses. I have my small telescopic Boyse rod and have been using lures. Coalies saved my day.
Mick.

Hello Mick, you up at Seahouses now? I'm at the caravan, watched the kids catching coalies today, I had a place booked on the Guide Me but it was cancelled.
Winds up now and it's chucking it down so I'm freezing me crabs as it looks like I'll not get out now. Ill see what the weather brings tomorrow.

Should have hopped on the ferry over to Rothesay, then go to Ettrick Bay for some steroid lug then off up to the lighthouse for steroid wrasse on the float and many other species then head back for a beer in the Golfers before getting the ferry back ;-) you not try for wrasse off the rocks?? They are some monster ballon over there

Well done m8 at least you got a bit fishing in as it does/nt matter what you caught at least it keeps you in the swim and the pics are smashing too as the scenery must have been great and on those rocks it was/nt dangerous to fish from so excellent m8.:D:D:D:D

Just back home now, looks like we got the best of the weather, bloody rain all day so far.

Agreed the scenary and pubs are definately worth going back for, but not the fishing unfortunately.

Hopefully the fish stocks may get back to close to how they were? one day?

Hopefully mate. By the way, fishing with light gear has many advantages including yer don't have to lug a rod rest around with you. Just my opinion like
